Online darts scorer
Add players, pick a game mode and enter every dart on the keypad – the scorer works out the remaining score, busts, checkout routes and averages. Your game stays in your browser.
How it is calculated
How the darts scorer works
- Set up: choose the starting score (301, 501 or 701), double out or single out, optional double in, legs per set and number of sets (“first to”), then add players.
- Enter darts: for each dart tap the multiplier (single, double, treble) and then the segment. The multiplier resets to single after every dart. “25” is the outer bull, “Bull” the bullseye (50, counts as a double), “0” a miss.
- Read the score: the big number is the remaining score. After three darts it is the next player’s turn, and from 170 down a checkout route appears.
501 (X01) rules in short
Every player starts on 501 (or 301/701) and throws three darts per visit. The visit total is subtracted from the remaining score, and the first player to reach exactly zero wins the leg. With double out the last dart must hit a double – D1 to D20 or the bullseye – as in tournaments under World Darts Federation and PDC rules. With single out any dart that reaches exactly zero finishes. Double in means points only start counting once a double is hit; that double counts too.
The bust rule
A visit is bust if the score would drop below zero, and with double out also on a remainder of 1 or on zero without a double. The whole visit then counts for nothing: the score goes back to what it was before the visit and the next player throws. Example: 32 left, darts 20 and 12 → zero without a double → bust, still 32.
Checkout routes
The scorer calculates the shortest route using the darts left in the visit and prefers the popular finishing doubles D20, D16 and D18. The highest finish is 170 (T20 T20 Bull). With double out, 169, 168, 166, 165, 163, 162 and 159 cannot be finished in three darts – the so-called bogey numbers. The route is a suggestion; feel free to set up your favourite double instead.
3-dart average
The average is points per three darts: points scored ÷ darts thrown × 3. Checking out 501 in 15 darts gives an average of 100.2. Darts in a bust visit count as thrown but score zero. The value covers the whole match.
Legs, sets and throwing first
“First to 3” legs means the set goes to whoever wins three legs first; with several sets, the next set starts at zero legs. The throw rotates with every leg. Undo takes back one dart at a time – even across a bust or a won leg.
For other games use the score keeper, and let a coin flip decide who starts.
For darts nights and league play: build the fixture list with the tournament bracket generator, show the match score to everyone on the online scoreboard, and for dice games afterwards use the dice score sheet.
Frequently asked questions
How do you score 501 darts?
Everyone starts on 501, throws three darts per visit and subtracts the total. The first to reach exactly zero wins the leg – with double out, the last dart has to be a double.
What is a bust in darts?
Scoring too many: the remainder would go below zero, or with double out would be exactly 1 or zero without a double. The whole visit is void and the score stays where it was.
Which scores can’t be checked out?
Nothing above 170 can be finished with three darts. Below that, with double out, 169, 168, 166, 165, 163, 162 and 159 are impossible in three darts.
How is the 3-dart average calculated?
Points scored divided by darts thrown, times 3. Example: 501 points in 18 darts is an average of 83.5.
Does the bullseye count as a double?
Yes. The bullseye (50) is double 25 and finishes a leg with double out, as in the 170 checkout T20 T20 Bull. The outer bull (25) is a single.
Can I fix a wrongly entered dart?
Yes, “Undo” (or Backspace) removes the last dart – as often as you like, even across a bust or a won leg.
Is the game lost when I reload?
No. The match is saved in your browser’s localStorage and continues after a reload. Nothing is sent to a server.
Can I use the keyboard?
Yes: type the number, S, D or T for the multiplier, B for bull and 0 for a miss. Confirm 1 and 2 with Enter, since a second digit may follow.
