Charades generator

This charades generator picks a random word or phrase for you to act out without speaking. Choose a ready-made list – easy actions, animals, jobs, kids, hard ones or a desi list for dumb charades – or delete everything and type in your own ideas, one per line.

How it is calculated

The charades generator picks one entry from the list completely at random; the actor then mimes it without speaking while the team guesses. The ready-made “Easy” list has 18 entries, so each one comes up with a probability of 1 in 18, about 5.56%.

How to play charades with the generator

  1. Split into two teams and agree on a time limit – 60 or 90 seconds per turn works well.
  2. The actor turns the screen towards themselves and presses Spin the wheel.
  3. They act out the word: no talking, no sounds, no mouthing words and no pointing at objects in the room.
  4. A correct guess inside the time limit scores one point. Then the other team plays.
  5. Tick “Remove the winning entry from the wheel” so that no word comes up twice.

To split the group fairly, use the random team generator; to keep the points, the score keeper.

Dumb charades with movie names

In India the game is usually called dumb charades and is mostly played with film titles. This page deliberately ships no film lists, but the generator handles them just as well: have each team write its own titles into the text box, one per line, and let the wheel choose. Agree on the usual signals first – a hand-cranked camera for “film”, fingers for the number of words, a tap on the forearm for syllables.

Your own list, saved and shared

Type your own words into the box – inside jokes, vocabulary for an English lesson, themes for a festival or an office party. The list is saved in your browser for next time, and “Share this wheel” copies a link that lets you send your set to the other host by WhatsApp. Entries can be weighted: “Elephant *2” makes that slice twice as likely.

Frequently asked questions

How does the charades generator choose a word?

It picks one entry from the current list at random; every entry has the same chance unless you give it a weight such as “Elephant *2”. The odds table under the wheel shows the exact percentages.

Are the words suitable for kids?

Yes. All ready-made lists are family-friendly. For children who cannot read yet, use the “Kids” or “Animals” list and whisper the word to them.

What is the difference between charades and dumb charades?

It is the same miming game. “Dumb charades” is the name commonly used in India, where it is mostly played with film titles.

Does the generator include movie names?

No. The lists contain everyday words and scenes only. If you want to play with films, type your own titles into the text box – the wheel treats them like any other entry.

How do I avoid getting the same word twice?

Tick “Remove the winning entry from the wheel”. Each word is then taken off after it has been drawn; “Put drawn entries back” refills the wheel.

Can I add my own words?

Yes. Write one word or phrase per line, up to 80 characters each. You can mix your words with a ready-made list or replace it completely.

How many players do you need for charades?

At least four, so that two teams of two can play. With three people, one acts and the other two race to guess.

Can I use it for online classes or video calls?

Yes. Open the generator on your own screen, do not share that window, and act out the word on camera.
