This volleyball scoreboard keeps the whole match for you: tap the box of the team that won the rally and the board works out when a set is over, who serves next and when to switch sides in the deciding set. It runs in the browser on a phone, tablet or laptop – no app, no account.

How it is calculated

This volleyball scoreboard uses rally scoring: every rally is worth one point, a set is won at 25 points with a lead of at least two, and the deciding set is played to 15. You only tap the team that won the rally – the board does the rest.

How to use the volleyball scoreboard

  1. Type both team names, choose best of five or best of three, and pick the team that serves first.
  2. After each rally, tap the large box of the team that won it. The ● marks the team that serves next.
  3. When a set ends, the board stores its score, adds it to the sets won and opens the next set at 0–0.
  4. “Undo point” fixes a wrong tap. “Full screen” makes the score readable from the bench or the stands.

What score do you play to in volleyball?

RuleSets 1 to 4Deciding set
Points to win2515
Minimum lead2 points2 points
Capnone – play continues until one team leads by two
Switching sidesafter every setwhen the leading team reaches 8 points

Example: at 24–24 the set does not end at 25–24. It goes on to 26–24, 27–25 and so on. The same applies in the deciding set from 14–14. Under the official rules the match is won by the team that wins three sets, so the deciding set is the fifth. In a best-of-three match the deciding set is the third.

Who serves, and when does a team rotate?

The team that wins the rally scores a point and serves next. If the receiving team wins the rally, it gains the serve and its players rotate one position clockwise before serving. If the serving team scores, the same player serves again and nobody rotates. The next set is started by the team that did not serve first in the previous set; before the deciding set there is a new toss. The board cannot know the result of that toss, so it simply alternates – if the toss goes the other way, set “First serve” accordingly or ignore the marker for that set.

Sharing the score

The whole match is stored as a short rally log. Reloading the page keeps the score, and the share button sends the current result – for example to the team’s WhatsApp group – as a link that opens the same scoreboard. Team names never travel in the page address itself.

Frequently asked questions

How many points is a volleyball set?

A set is played to 25 points and must be won by two. The deciding set – the fifth, or the third in a best-of-three match – is played to 15, also with a two-point lead.

What happens at 24–24?

Play continues until one team is two points ahead: 26–24, 27–25 and so on. The official rules have no cap, and the scoreboard keeps counting.

How many sets do you need to win a volleyball match?

Three sets in the official best-of-five format. Many school and recreational matches are best of three, where two sets win. You can choose either format above.

When do teams switch sides?

After every set. In the deciding set the teams also switch as soon as the leading team reaches 8 points – the scoreboard shows a note at that moment.

How do I correct a wrong point?

Tap “Undo point”. It removes the last rally, even across the end of a set, so a set that was closed by mistake opens again.

Does the scoreboard work without internet?

Once the page has loaded, counting works without a connection. The score lives in the page itself and survives a reload.

Can I show the scoreboard on a TV or projector?

Yes. Open the page on a laptop connected to the screen and press “Full screen”. If the teams stand the other way round, use “Swap sides”.

Is this volleyball scoreboard free?

Yes. There is nothing to install and no sign-up; it runs in any current browser.
