Snooker Scoreboard and Scorer

A free snooker scoreboard for the club table or the one in the garage. Tap the ball that was potted; the scorer adds the points, follows the break, knows which ball is on, and shows how many points are left on the table – and when someone needs snookers. Fouls, free balls, a re-spotted black and best-of-frames matches are all covered. No app, no sign-up.

Tap the ball that was potted, or “End of break” when the player misses.

Fewer reds make a shorter frame – common on small tables and for practice.

How it is calculated

In snooker a red is worth 1 point and the colours 2 to 7: yellow 2, green 3, brown 4, blue 5, pink 6, black 7. A player pots a red, then a colour, then a red again; the colours go back on their spots until all reds are gone, and are then potted in order from yellow to black. This scoreboard follows that sequence and only offers the balls that can legally be potted next.

How to use the snooker scoreboard

  1. Enter the players’ names, choose the match length and who breaks off.
  2. For every ball potted, tap its button. The points go to the player at the table (marked ●) and the break counts up.
  3. When the player misses or plays safe, tap “End of break”. The other player comes to the table.
  4. For a foul, tap the penalty: 4, 5, 6 or 7. The points go to the opponent, who plays next.
  5. “Undo” takes back the last entry, as often as you need.

A foul always costs at least four points and at most seven: the value of the ball on or of the ball involved, whichever is higher.

Points remaining and snookers required

With all 15 reds on the table there are 147 points available: 15 reds with 15 blacks (15 × 8 = 120) plus the six colours (2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 = 27). The scoreboard works out “points remaining” the same way: 8 for every red left, plus 27 for the colours. While a colour is on after a red, the 7 for that black is still included.

Example: 5 reds left and a red is on → 5 × 8 + 27 = 67 points remaining. If you trail by 70, potting everything is no longer enough; you need penalty points from your opponent, and the board shows “needs snookers”.

Frames and matches

Choose “Best of 5 frames” and the first player to win three frames wins the match. The players take turns to break off. The scoreboard keeps the frame scores and each player’s highest break.

Share and keep the score

Every shot is stored in the page address and in your browser, so the match survives a reload or a locked phone. The names you type are kept in your browser only; they leave it solely inside a link you share yourself, after the # sign, which browsers do not send to a server. “Share” sends a link with the exact score – for the league secretary or the group chat. “Full screen” makes a tablet readable from the far cushion.

Frequently asked questions

How do you score in snooker?

Each red is worth 1 point. After a red you pot a colour: yellow 2, green 3, brown 4, blue 5, pink 6 or black 7. Fouls give at least 4 points to the opponent. The player with more points when all balls are gone – or when the other concedes – wins the frame.

How many points are left on a snooker table?

Count 8 for every red still on the table and add 27 for the colours. With 15 reds that is 147; with 3 reds it is 3 × 8 + 27 = 51. The scoreboard shows this figure after every shot.

What does “snookers required” mean?

A player is further behind than the points remaining on the table. Potting every ball would not be enough, so the player needs penalty points – usually by laying snookers that force fouls.

How many points is a foul in snooker?

At least 4. If the blue, pink or black is the ball on or is involved in the foul, the penalty is that ball’s value: 5, 6 or 7.

What is a maximum break?

A break of 147: fifteen reds, each followed by the black, and then all six colours in order.

What happens if the scores are level after the final black?

The black is put back on its spot, and the next score or foul ends the frame. The scoreboard switches to the re-spotted black automatically.

Can I use the scoreboard for six-red or ten-red snooker?

Yes. Choose 6 or 10 under “Reds on the table”. Points remaining and the order of play adjust accordingly.
