Editorial policy: how we check
These principles describe where the information on ToolboxDay comes from, how we check it, and what we do when something is wrong.
Choosing sources
We follow a fixed order of priority. Official sources come first: laws, regulations and publications of authorities and standards bodies. Next come specialist sources such as professional societies, associations and recognised textbooks. We use secondary sources such as news or advice sites only for context, never as the sole evidence.
If sources disagree, the higher-ranking one applies. If uncertainty remains, we say so on the page.
As-of dates
Values that can change carry an as-of date, for example tax rates, limits, contributions, and calendar and school-holiday dates. The date tells you when we last checked the value against its source, not when the page was designed.
When a rule changes, we update the tool and the date.
Technical checks
Automated tests with examples and edge cases from the sources protect the calculation logic. Browser tests open the pages in all 11 languages. These checks run before publication.
Errors and corrections
We check reports sent through the contact page against the source. Confirmed errors are corrected promptly, and the as-of date is adjusted where needed.
Independence
ToolboxDay may show advertising. It pays for running the site but does not influence results, sources or texts. We take no money to change results, sources or texts.
No advice
The tools provide calculations and orientation, not legal, tax, financial or medical advice. For binding decisions, the official source or advice from a qualified professional applies.
