Swim pace calculator

This swim pace calculator turns distance and time into your pace: the time per 100 meters or 100 yards, speed, time per length and a projection onto standard distances from 50 m to 1,500 m.

Details
  • That is 1:27 per 100 m.
  • Speed: 4.11 km/h (2.56 mph).
  • One length (25 yards) takes 0:20.0.
The projection assumes a constant pace. Over longer distances people usually slow down, and turns, open water or a wetsuit change the time.

How it is calculated

Swimming 1,500 m in 30:00 means a pace of 2:00 per 100 m – that is 3.0 km/h. The swim pace calculator takes your distance and time and gives you all the usual figures.

How it is calculated

In competition, swimmers race in 25 m (short course) or 50 m pools (long course); records are kept separately because the number of turns affects the time. The projection remains an estimate, as pace usually drops with distance.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my swim pace?

Divide the time by the distance and multiply by 100. 1,500 m in 30:00 is 1,800 s ÷ 1,500 × 100 = 120 s, so 2:00 per 100 m.

What is a good pace per 100 m?

It depends on training and goals. More useful than a benchmark is your own progress: measure over the same distance and compare over weeks.

How do I convert pace per 100 m to pace per 100 yards?

100 yards are 91.44 m, so pace per 100 yards is about 8.6% shorter than per 100 m. The calculator shows both.

How long is a length of the pool?

Common are 25 m (short course) and 50 m (long course), and 25 yards in the US. Set the pool length to see the time per length.

How accurate is the projection to other distances?

It assumes a constant pace. Over longer distances pace usually fades; allow an extra margin depending on your training.
