Cube calculator

To calculate a cube, enter one single measure – edge, diagonal, volume or surface area – and you get all the others, including the inscribed and circumscribed sphere.

Example: Known value: Edge length a · Value 5 · Length unit: cm → Result: Edge 5 cm, volume 125 cm³, surface area 150 cm². Source: Wikipedia – Würfel (Geometrie): space diagonal a·√3, surface area 6a², volume a³, inscribed and circumscribed sphere. Updated: .

How it is calculated

For a cube with edge a: volume V = a³ and surface area S = 6a². A cube with a 5 cm edge has a volume of 125 cm³ and a surface area of 150 cm².

How it is calculated

Every input first gives the edge: a = df/√2 for a given face diagonal, a = ds/√3 for a given space diagonal, a = ∛V or a = √(S/6). Then follow face diagonal a·√2, space diagonal a·√3, inscribed sphere radius a/2, circumscribed sphere radius a·√3/2 and the edge sum 12a.

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate the volume of a cube?

V = a³: multiply the edge length by itself three times. For a = 5 cm that is 125 cm³.

How do you calculate the surface area of a cube?

S = 6 · a², because a cube has six equal square faces. For a = 5 cm that is 150 cm².

How long is the space diagonal of a cube?

d = a · √3, about 1.732 · a. With a 5 cm edge that is 8.66 cm.

How do I find the edge length from the volume?

Take the cube root: a = ∛V. From 27 cm³ you get a = 3 cm.
