How it is calculated

A vocabulary test needs only two things: a word list and a sheet to answer on. This generator makes both from your own list: it picks the questions, sets them one below the other with answer lines and adds an answer key if you like. That lets you quiz every unit of a textbook in a minute.

How it works

  1. Paste your word pairs, one pair per line, separated by a semicolon (or tab, “=”, “ - ”).
  2. Set the direction, the number of questions and the selection: random or from the top of the list.
  3. Check the sheet and download it with “Create PDF”. “New questions” builds a different test from the same list.

Tips for teachers and learners

Sharing and privacy

The PDF is created entirely in your browser. The word list does appear in the page link so that you can share a test. Only pass on the link if the list is suitable for it.

Honest limits

The test checks the translation of single words. Several correct answers, articles or inflections are not graded by the sheet; the key shows exactly what you wrote in the list.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a vocabulary test?

Paste your word pairs (one pair per line, separated by a semicolon), choose the direction and the number of questions and download the PDF.

Which separators work?

Semicolon, tab, equals sign or a hyphen with spaces around it. So you can paste lists from Excel directly.

Is there an answer key?

Yes. The answer key follows the test pages, with the answers in blue on the lines. You can switch it off.

How do I get a different test from the same list?

Click “New questions”. Different words are chosen and shuffled. The link remembers the version.

Are my words stored?

No. There is no upload and no account. The list is only in the page link if you share it.
