How it is calculated

How the online notepad works

  1. Just type: every change is saved in your browser a moment later, and the status line shows the time.
  2. "New note" adds another; switch between up to 50 notes in the list. The first line becomes the note's name.
  3. "Download .txt" saves the current note as a file; "Open text file" loads a .txt, .md or .csv file as a new note.

On phones and tablets, "Share" opens your device's share sheet (messages, email and so on) with the note's text – no public link is created. Below the text box you see live word, character and line counts, handy for anything with a length limit. Full screen hides everything else so you can write without distractions.

Where are my notes stored?

Only in your browser's local storage (localStorage, key "notizblock:v1"). Nothing is uploaded, there is no account and no sync. That also means:

For anything important, download a .txt copy now and then. Browsers allow about 5 MiB of local storage per site – roughly 1,000 pages of text – and the notepad warns you if it is full.

Privacy and security

Because nothing is sent anywhere, nobody can read your notes in transit. Anyone with access to your device and browser profile can open them, though, so do not keep passwords here – the password generator creates strong ones.

More text tools

Detailed counts and reading time come from the character counter, the text compare tool shows what changed between two versions, and the text cleaner strips stray formatting.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an online notepad that saves without signing up?

Yes – this one. Notes are stored in your browser's local storage, so they are still there next time you open the page in the same browser, with no account.

Will my notes be lost when I close the tab?

No, not in a normal window. They are gone only if you clear your browser data or used a private window.

Can I share a note?

On devices that support it, "Share" hands the text to your share sheet (for example a messenger or email). There is deliberately no public link or cloud copy.

Can I open my notes on another device?

Not automatically, because there is no cloud. Download the note as .txt and open the file on the other device with "Open text file".

How many notes can I keep?

Up to 50 notes, as long as your browser storage allows – about 5 MiB per site, roughly 1,000 pages of text.
