How it is calculated
In two truths and a lie every player says three things about themselves – two true, one invented – and the others guess which one is the lie. The wheel helps with the hardest part: finding ideas. In a set of 15 sentence starters each one comes up with a probability of 1 in 15, about 6.67%.
How to play with the wheel
- Spin three times – or spin once and finish the same sentence starter three times.
- Complete two sentences with true facts and one with something believable that is not true.
- Read all three in a random order, with a straight face.
- The group votes on the lie. Every player who guessed right gets a point; if nobody guessed it, the storyteller gets two.
Examples from the four sets
| Set | Sentence starter | Three finished statements (one is invented) |
|---|---|---|
| Funny | “I once got stuck in …” | a lift for an hour · a revolving door · a snowdrift up to my waist |
| Work | “My first job was …” | washing dishes · walking dogs · selling ice cream on a beach |
| School | “I can play …” | the recorder · chess blindfolded · the drums |
| Travel & food | “I have tasted …” | snail soup · cactus · chocolate with chili |
With “All (60)” each starter has a probability of 1 in 60, about 1.67%.
What makes a good lie
- Close to the truth: change one detail of a real story – the place, the number, the animal.
- Surprising truths: the best rounds have one true fact that sounds made up.
- Same length: keep all three statements short and similar, so the lie does not stand out.
- Nothing private: for work and school, stay with hobbies, travel, food and funny mishaps.
For work, school and online meetings
Two truths and a lie is a classic icebreaker for new teams and classes: everyone speaks once, and the group remembers the stories. In a video call, players can type their three statements in the chat and the group votes with numbers 1, 2 or 3. To decide who starts, use the random name picker.
