How it is calculated

Daily deal, time and the same deal for friends

Daily deal starts the cards of the day: the same for everyone, with three passes and confirmed solvable by the solver. The clock starts with your first move and stops when the pyramid is empty or nothing more is possible; every removed pair, every drawn card and every undo counts as a move. After a win the Share button sends your time together with a link to exactly these cards, so others can try to beat it – a win with the “Hint” button is not offered as a time to beat. “Copy link to this deal” gives you the link to the current cards at any time. Best time and win streak are kept only in this browser.

How to play pyramid solitaire

28 cards are dealt face up as a pyramid of seven rows, each row half covering the one above. The other 24 cards form the stock. The goal is to clear the whole pyramid.

  1. Pairs of 13: tap two free cards whose values add up to 13. Ace counts 1, Jack 11, Queen 12, King 13 – so a King is removed on its own.
  2. Free cards: a pyramid card is free when neither of the two cards below it is still there. A Queen with an Ace resting on it cannot be paired with that Ace.
  3. Stock: tap the stock to draw a card. The drawn card and the top card of the waste next to it are free and can be paired with pyramid cards or with each other.

You win when the pyramid is empty – cards may remain in the stock (known as “Relaxed Pyramid”). Strict scoring would also require clearing all stock cards.

Passes and solvability

Classically you go through the stock only once; under the strictest rules only about one game in 50 can be won. The “Par Pyramid” variant lets you reuse the waste twice – that is the 3-pass option. With “Solvable deals only”, a solver checks each shuffle before dealing: it searches all move sequences and discards positions in which a card has no reachable partner left. If no confirmed deal is found quickly, you get an unchecked game and a note.

Frequently asked questions

What are the rules of pyramid solitaire?

Remove two free cards that add up to 13, or a King on its own. A card is free when nothing rests on it. Cards from the stock can be paired with pyramid cards. The goal is to clear the pyramid.

What do Jack, Queen and King count in pyramid solitaire?

Jack 11, Queen 12, King 13 and Ace 1. So a Queen pairs with an Ace, a Jack with a 2 – and the King goes on its own.

How do you set up pyramid solitaire?

Deal one card at the top, then rows of two, three and so on down to seven – 28 cards in total, each row half covering the one above. The remaining 24 cards are the stock.

Is every game of pyramid solitaire winnable?

No. With a single pass through the stock only about 2% of games can be won under the strictest rules. With “Solvable deals only” you only get shuffles that a solver has confirmed.

How many times can you go through the deck?

Classically once. The “Par Pyramid” variant allows three passes; you can choose either option above the table.
