Mind map maker
Just type your points – one line per idea, Tab to indent. The mind map arranges itself automatically, no dragging or clicking needed.
How it is calculated
A mind map arranges ideas around a central topic – for presentations, project planning, revision notes or brainstorming. Instead of dragging boxes around, you simply write an outline here and the tool draws the branches and keeps everything tidy.
How it works
- Write the central topic on the first line.
- Give every further idea its own line. Tab makes it a sub-point of the line above; Shift + Tab moves it back out.
- The preview shows the finished mind map at once; main branches get their own colours.
- Save as PNG (e.g. for slides) or SVG (scales without loss).
How the layout is made
Main branches are assigned to whichever side is currently shorter, so the map stays balanced left and right. Each branch gets as much height as its sub-points need and sits centred in front of them – a simplified tree layout after Reingold and Tilford. Connections are curved Bézier lines. Colours come from the Okabe–Ito palette, which stays distinguishable for people with colour vision deficiency.
Honest limits
Nodes cannot be moved freely, and there are no images, icons or cross-links between branches. Long texts make wide boxes – short keywords work better. At most 300 nodes are drawn. The draft lives only in this browser; in private mode or after clearing site data it is gone.
Privacy
Nothing is uploaded. The text is stored only in your browser’s local storage under “mindmap:v1”.
Frequently asked questions
What is the fastest way to make a mind map?
Topic on the first line, main points below, sub-points indented with Tab. The layout is automatic – no dragging needed.
Can I paste an outline from Word or a notes app?
Yes. Indented lists with tabs, spaces or bullet characters (-, *, •) are recognised.
Is my mind map saved?
Yes, automatically in your browser. For permanent storage save it as PNG or SVG, or copy the text.
How many levels are possible?
As many as you like; three to four levels usually stay clear. Up to 300 nodes are drawn in total.
