Engagement rate calculator: by followers, reach or views
The engagement rate shows how strongly your posts trigger reactions. Enter the base and the interactions and see the rate, the interactions per 1,000 and the share of each type at once. With a post list from Excel and a target calculation: how many interactions are missing to reach the rate you want?

How it is calculated
How to calculate engagement rate: the formula
The engagement rate puts interactions in relation to a base: (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ base × 100. A post with 579 interactions and 12,500 followers reaches 579 ÷ 12,500 = 4.63%. There is no single standard: platforms, agencies and tools count different interactions and choose different bases.
Which base fits?
- Followers: the most common value, good for comparing whole accounts. For several posts the tool works out the average per post.
- Reach: relates the interactions to the accounts reached and judges single posts more fairly, because not every follower sees every post.
- Views or impressions: useful for videos and ads, where views are the key number.
Post list and target calculation
Paste lines from Excel, one per post with likes, comments, shares and saves. The tool calculates the rate of every post, the average and the strongest and weakest post. With a target rate you see how many interactions per post would be needed and how many are still missing.
Limits
The rate alone says little about success. Compare it with your own earlier posts and with accounts of similar size and sector, and read it together with reach and goals. For ads, the conversion rate calculator and the ROAS calculator help.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate engagement rate?
Add likes, comments, shares and saves, divide the total by your followers, reach or views and multiply by 100.
What is a good engagement rate?
There is no universal benchmark. Compare with your own earlier posts and with accounts of similar size in your sector, always using the same base.
Which is better: engagement per follower or per reach?
Per follower suits comparing whole accounts, per reach judges single posts more accurately because not all followers see every post.
Can I analyse several posts at once?
Yes. Paste one line of four numbers per post into the post list. The tool shows the rate per post and the average.
Are my numbers stored?
No. The calculation runs in your browser, with no upload and no account.
