OEE Calculator

This OEE calculator works out overall equipment effectiveness: enter planned time, downtime, ideal cycle time, total parts and scrap, and read off the three factors and the lost minutes.

Example: Planned production time 480 min · Unplanned downtime 47 min · Ideal cycle time per part 60 s · Total parts produced 400 pcs · Scrap and rework 8 pcs → OEE: OEE 81.7 %. Source: Wikipedia – Gesamtanlageneffektivität (Verfügbarkeit × Leistungsgrad × Qualitätsgrad). Updated: .

Details
  • OEE = availability × performance × quality. Availability = run time / planned time, performance = ideal cycle time × parts / run time, quality = good parts / total parts.
  • The four time values add up to the planned time, so you can see where most time is lost.
OEE only becomes meaningful when cycle time and downtime reasons are defined consistently and recorded over a longer period.

How it is calculated

With 480 minutes planned time, 47 minutes downtime, an ideal cycle time of 60 seconds, 400 parts and 8 scrap parts, OEE is 81.7 %. It is the product of availability, performance and quality.

How it is calculated

Availability shows what share of the planned time the machine ran. Performance compares the actual part count with what the ideal cycle time would allow during the run time. Quality is the share of good parts among all parts made. Multiplied together they give OEE, which equals the time spent making only good parts at ideal speed divided by planned time. The table below shows each loss in minutes.

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate OEE?

OEE = availability × performance × quality. The calculator derives the three factors from your times and part counts and multiplies them.

What is a good OEE score?

It depends on the industry and the process. What matters most is the trend over time and comparing similar machines under the same definition.

What counts as planned production time?

Shift time without planned breaks and planned stops. Changeovers and breakdowns count as unplanned downtime and lower availability.

Why is my performance above 100 %?

Either the machine ran faster than the ideal cycle time you entered or the count is wrong. Set the ideal cycle time to the machine's real top speed.
