How it is calculated

How the template works

You enter your details, the company, the job title and your three paragraphs. The tool turns them into a letter with sender and recipient, place and date on the right, a bold subject line, greeting, text, sign-off, signature line and a note on enclosures. The sample texts show length and tone; replace them completely with your own words and tailor them to the job. If you like, you add the earliest date you can start.

What a cover letter should contain

Background

The National Careers Service describes a cover letter as a short letter, usually three to five paragraphs long, and advises matching the sign-off to the greeting: “Yours sincerely” if you know the name of the person, “Yours faithfully” after “Dear Sir or Madam”. The template therefore ends with “Yours faithfully” and a generic greeting, which you can change. Your CV comes from the resume builder, and if you later leave a job, the cancellation letter template has a resignation letter.

Limits

The tool provides structure and sample text, not a finished application and not legal advice. Check content and spelling before you send the letter.
