How the resume builder works

You enter contact details, a short summary, work experience, education, skills and languages. The tool lays them out with the most recent job first, with dates on the left and the role and bullet points on the right. Choose between the classic, modern (colour band), sidebar and plain layout; the plain one has no photo and suits employers whose systems read documents automatically. Switching between “United States” and “United Kingdom” changes the headings and the paper size (US Letter or A4).

What goes into a CV or resume

Background

The UK’s National Careers Service lists contact details, an introduction, education history, work history and references as the core sections, with the most recent experience first, and advises against including your age, date of birth, marital status or nationality. For US applications, CareerOneStop describes contact information, a summary, work experience and education as the usual building blocks. That is why the tool shows no date-of-birth or nationality fields in these two formats. A matching letter is easy to write with the cover letter template, and if you leave a job the cancellation letter template includes a resignation letter.

Limits

The tool is a layout aid, not career advice. Check facts and spelling before you send the document; certificates and references you attach yourself.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a resume?

Enter your contact details, a short summary, your work experience with the latest job first, your education and skills, then choose a layout and download the PDF.

What is the difference between a resume and a CV?

In the US a resume is a short, targeted summary of your career, in the UK the CV serves the same purpose. This tool covers both and adjusts headings and paper size.

Should I put a photo on my resume?

It is not required, and in these two formats it is usually left out. If you want one anyway you can add it; the plain layout leaves photos out on purpose.

Can I get the resume as a Word file?

Yes. Besides the PDF you can download a Word file (DOCX) and keep editing it in Word.

Is my data stored anywhere?

No. There is no upload and no account. Only if you tick “Remember my entries in this browser” is the text kept locally; the photo is never saved.
