Maze game online

In this maze game online you guide the blue dot from the top-left corner to the green goal at the bottom right. Every maze has exactly one route, so it can always be solved. Pick one of four sizes (8 × 8 to 25 × 25), steer with the arrow keys, W-A-S-D or a tap, and time yourself. No sign-up, works on phones.

Guide the blue dot to the green goal at the bottom right. The clock starts with your first step. Grid: {n} × {n}.

Time: 0:00 Steps: 0

Rules: the black lines are walls. You can only move through gaps. There is exactly one route without turning back, but there are dead ends you can walk into.

Controls: arrow keys or W-A-S-D move the dot; on a phone use the direction buttons or tap the neighbouring square. “Show solution path” colours the route from your current square to the goal.

How it is calculated

In short: this maze game online builds a new maze every time, with exactly one route from start to goal. You steer the dot with the arrow keys or by tapping and try to get there quickly without running into too many dead ends.

How to get through faster

How the mazes are made

The computer builds them with a depth-first search: starting in the corner it walks to a random unvisited neighbour and knocks down the wall in between, until every square has been reached. The result has no loops and no unreachable squares – between any two squares there is exactly one route.

Puzzle series

“Next puzzle” takes you through a numbered series. The number and the size define the maze exactly: open no. 12 on “Medium” and you get the same maze as everyone else. Your progress stays on your device only.

Frequently asked questions

Does every maze have a way to the goal?

Yes. Every maze here has exactly one route from start to goal. There are no loops and no cut-off areas.

What is the fastest way to solve a maze?

Always follow the left wall or always the right wall with your hand. In mazes without loops this is guaranteed to reach the goal. It is faster still to trace the route backwards from the goal with your eyes.

How do I steer on a phone?

With the direction buttons below the maze or by tapping an adjacent square. On a computer the arrow keys or W, A, S and D are enough.

What does “Show solution path” do?

It shows the shortest route from your current position to the goal. If you use it, that maze does not count towards the puzzle series.

Is anything saved?

Only which puzzle numbers you solved, and only in your browser (localStorage). Nothing is sent anywhere.
