Cornhole Scoreboard and Score Keeper

A free cornhole scoreboard that does the math for you. After each round, tap how many bags each team has in the hole and on the board. The score keeper cancels the points against each other, adds the difference to the right team, shows who pitches first next and tells you when someone has reached 21. Works for bags in the backyard and at the tailgate – no app, no sign-up.

How it is calculated

Cornhole is scored by cancellation: a bag in the hole is worth 3 points, a bag on the board 1 point, and only the difference between the two teams counts each round. The first team to reach 21 at the end of a round wins. This scoreboard follows the official rules of the American Cornhole League (ACL) for 2026/2027.

How to use the cornhole scoreboard

  1. Type the team names if you like, and choose who has the first pitch.
  2. When all eight bags have been thrown, use + and − to set how many bags each team has in the hole and on the board. The preview line shows what the round is worth.
  3. Tap “Score this round”. The difference goes to the team with more points, and the dot ● moves to the team that pitches first next.
  4. Made a mistake? “Undo last round” removes it. For anything older, correct the line in the “Rounds” box.

How cancellation scoring works

Each player pitches four bags per round. At the end of the round:

Then the two totals cancel each other: the team with more points scores the difference, the other team scores nothing. Equal totals are a “wash” and nobody scores.

Example

RoundTeam ATeam BScoredScore
11 in, 2 on = 50 in, 3 on = 3Team A +22–0
20 in, 1 on = 12 in, 0 on = 6Team B +52–5
31 in, 1 on = 41 in, 1 on = 4Wash2–5

Winning the game

In the words of the ACL rules, “play continues until a score of at least 21 points is achieved by one team at the conclusion of a round”. A round is always finished, and a team “does not have to win by a minimum of two points”. Because only one team can score per round, the game cannot end in a tie.

What about “exactly 21” and going bust?

Many backyard games use house rules – you must hit 21 exactly, or drop back to 11 or 15 if you go over, or a skunk at 11–0. These are not part of the official rules and they differ from yard to yard, so this scoreboard does not apply them. If you play to a different total, change the “Play to” number.

Who throws first?

The team that scored in the last round has the first pitch in the next one. After a wash, the team that pitched first in that round pitches first again.

Share and keep the score

The whole game is stored in the page address and in your browser, so the score survives a locked phone or a reload. The names you type are kept in your browser only; they leave it solely inside a link you share yourself, after the # sign, which browsers do not send to a server. “Share” sends a link with the round-by-round table – useful for league night results or a group chat. “Full screen” turns a tablet into a scoreboard everyone can read.

Frequently asked questions

How do you keep score in cornhole?

After each round count 3 points per bag in the hole and 1 point per bag on the board for both teams. Subtract the lower total from the higher one; the difference goes to the team with more points. The scoreboard does this for you.

What is cancellation scoring?

The points of the two teams cancel each other out, so only one team can score in a round. If Team A has 5 and Team B has 3, Team A scores 2.

Do you have to hit exactly 21 in cornhole?

Not under the official ACL rules: the game ends when a team has at least 21 points at the end of a round. Hitting 21 exactly is a common house rule.

Do you have to win by 2 in cornhole?

No. The ACL rules state that a team does not have to win by a minimum of two points.

How many points is a bag hanging over the hole?

As long as it has not dropped through, it is a bag on the board and counts 1 point. Only a bag that has gone through the hole by the end of the round counts 3.

What is a wash in cornhole?

A round in which both teams have the same number of points. Nobody scores, and the same team pitches first again.

Can I use this as a bags scoreboard for singles and doubles?

Yes. Scoring is the same for singles and doubles: four bags per side each round. Just enter the bags of each side.
