Convert video to MP3
Save the audio track of your own video as MP3 – a talk, a voice recording or music from a phone video. The conversion runs in your browser; the video is never uploaded.
How it is calculated
This tool separates sound from picture: it reads your video’s audio track, trims a section if you like and saves it as MP3 – the format every phone, car stereo and player can handle. Alternatively, you get WAV without any quality loss.
How it works
- Drag in or choose a video (MP4, MOV from iPhone, WebM, MKV).
- Optionally enter a start and end, e.g. 1:30 to 4:05 – otherwise the whole audio is converted.
- Choose a bitrate and click “Convert to MP3”. You can listen to the result right away and download it.
Which bitrate?

The size follows directly from the bitrate: 192 kbps × 60 s ÷ 8 = 1,440 KB per minute. You can’t get more quality than the video’s audio track has – a phone video with 128 kbps AAC audio only gets bigger at 320 kbps, not better. Mono halves the size and is fine for speech-only recordings.
How does this work without a server?
Your browser can read the audio track of common video formats itself (Web Audio API). MP3 encoding is done by lamejs, a JavaScript version of the proven LAME encoder, in a background thread. The decoded audio sits in memory – about 21 MB per minute in stereo – which is why the length is limited to 30 minutes.
If it doesn’t work
- “No audio track”: the video has no sound, or your browser doesn’t know the audio codec. Try another browser.
- iPhone videos (MOV): the audio is usually AAC and works in all common browsers.
- Very long videos: trim the video first or use a desktop program.
Legal and privacy
Only convert videos you own the rights to or are allowed to use. This tool does not download anything from the internet and only processes files from your device – without uploading them.

Is my video uploaded?
No. The audio is read from the video in your browser and saved as MP3 there. The video never leaves your device.
Can I save only part of the video as MP3?
Yes. Enter a start and an end, e.g. 0:45 and 2:10. Empty fields mean the beginning or end of the video.
Which video formats are supported?
MP4, MOV (iPhone), WebM and MKV, plus audio files such as M4A, WAV, OGG and FLAC. What matters is that your browser can read the audio codec – AAC, MP3 and Opus work everywhere.
How long can the video be?
Up to 30 minutes. The audio is loaded completely into memory for conversion; longer videos would overwhelm many devices.
Can I convert YouTube videos to MP3?
No. The tool only processes files that are already on your device and does not download anything from websites.
MP3 or WAV – which is better?
MP3 is small and plays everywhere. WAV is lossless but, at 1,411 kbps, about 7 to 11 times larger than MP3 – useful if you want to edit the audio afterwards.
