How it is calculated
In short: A ringtone is a short clip of a song that your phone plays when someone calls. On iPhone, Apple allows up to 30 seconds. This tool cuts the part you want right in your browser, fades it out smoothly and saves it as MP3 or M4R – no app and no upload.
How it works
- Drop in a song or a video. The first 30 seconds are already selected.
- Drag the selection in the waveform to the chorus, or type start and end times (e.g. 1:05). Check it with “Play selection”.
- Keep fade-out at 1–2 seconds so the sound doesn’t stop abruptly.
- Choose a format and click “Save ringtone”.
Setting it as your ringtone
- iPhone with iOS 26 or later: open the MP3 in the Files app, tap Share and choose “Use as Ringtone”. Then select it in Settings → Sounds & Haptics → Ringtone.
- iPhone with older iOS: drag the M4R file onto the iPhone in Finder on a Mac, or in iTunes or the Apple Devices app on a PC. Apple also describes a way via GarageBand.
- Android: copy the MP3 into the “Ringtones” folder, or go to Settings → Sound → Ringtone and add it with “+” or “From device”. Menu names vary slightly by manufacturer.
Background
Apple’s GarageBand guide states that ringtones can be up to 30 seconds long. Since iOS 26, any audio file can also be set as a ringtone from the share sheet. Technically, M4R is an M4A file (AAC audio in an MP4 container) with a different extension. The tool creates the AAC audio with the browser’s built-in encoder (WebCodecs) and writes the container itself; MP3 is encoded by the LAME encoder (lamejs) in the background.
Honest limits
- M4R only works in browsers with an AAC encoder (Chrome, Edge, Safari depending on the system); in Firefox please choose MP3.
- No website can set a ringtone directly – that always happens in your phone’s settings.
- Songs from streaming services are copy-protected and can’t be used; use only music you own or are allowed to use.
Privacy
Your music file is processed only in your browser and is never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make a ringtone for free?
Choose a song here, mark the part you want and click “Save ringtone”. It’s free, with no app and no account.
How long can an iPhone ringtone be?
According to Apple, up to 30 seconds. That’s why the tool limits the selection to 30 seconds by default.
How do I make a ringtone for iPhone without GarageBand?
On iOS 26 or later: save an MP3, share it from the Files app and choose “Use as Ringtone”. On older iOS, transfer the M4R file to the iPhone with Finder or iTunes.
How do I set a custom ringtone on Android?
Save the MP3, then open Settings → Sound (on Samsung: Sounds and vibration) → Ringtone and add the file with “+”. Other manufacturers use similar menu names.
Can I make a ringtone from Spotify or YouTube?
Not from the streaming apps themselves: their tracks are encrypted or only play inside the app. Use an MP3 or recording you own, or a video file you are allowed to use.
