Record your whole screen, a single window or a browser tab, with your voice if you like: click Start, pick what to share, done. The video is created in your browser and is never uploaded.
How it is calculated
This tool records whatever happens on your screen – for a how-to, a bug report for support, a presentation or a short explainer video. You need no software and no account. The browser supplies the picture through the getDisplayMedia() interface, and its built-in MediaRecorder does the recording. The finished video sits only in your browser’s memory until you download it. Nothing is uploaded, not even to us.
How to record your screen
- Choose audio: “System audio” captures the sound of your computer or of a tab (for example a video you play). “Microphone” records your voice. If you pick both, they are mixed into one audio track automatically.
- Click “Start recording”. Your browser opens its own picker: entire screen, a single window or a browser tab. This prompt comes from the browser, not from this page – without your choice the page sees nothing.
- Allow the microphone if needed. If you ticked “Microphone”, the browser asks separately.
- Record. The timer runs; “Pause” interrupts the recording without ending it.
- Stop with “Stop recording” or via the browser’s sharing bar (“Stop sharing”). Both give the same result.
- Check and save: the preview plays the video, and “Download video” saves it with the date and time in the file name.

The browser’s picker shows exactly what it offers: if there is no audio switch, this browser cannot deliver system audio for that source.
On a phone: use the built-in feature
Mobile browsers do not offer screen sharing to websites. Both major systems have their own recorder, though:
- iPhone/iPad: open Control Center and tap the record button. A long press lets you turn on the microphone. If the button is missing, add it under Settings → Control Center.
- Android: tap “Screen record” in Quick Settings (available since Android 11, named slightly differently by some manufacturers). Before starting you can choose whether to record audio.
MP4 or WebM?
The browser decides which formats it can record – this page automatically takes the best one on offer and prefers MP4, because it plays almost everywhere (Windows, Mac, phones, editors, messengers). Firefox and older Chrome versions produce WebM, which every modern browser, VLC and most video editors play.
Good to know: videos straight from a browser recorder sometimes lack the total length in their file data. Some players then show no duration or seek imprecisely. The video itself is complete; opening and saving it once in a video editor (or running it through a converter) fixes this.
Tips for good recordings
- Record a single window or tab if the rest is private: notifications, bookmarks and other windows stay out of the picture.
- Turn off notifications (Windows: Do not disturb, macOS: Focus) so no messages pop into the video.
- For tab audio, pick the tab you want and leave “Share tab audio” switched on in the picker.
- Use headphones with the microphone so system audio does not reach the mic a second time through your speakers (echo).
- Long recordings: the video grows in memory. For very long sessions, record in parts and download in between.
Honest limits
- No editing, no webcam overlay, no click highlighting – this is a lean recorder. Trim the video afterwards in any editor.
- The recording belongs to this tab: closing or reloading the page while recording discards the video.
- Resolution and frame rate depend on your screen, browser and computer. For fast motion (games), dedicated software does better.
- Protected content (e.g. streaming services with copy protection) often appears black in the recording – the browser or operating system prevents it.

Frequently asked questions
Is my recording uploaded?
No. Picture and sound go straight from the browser into the browser’s own recorder, and the video then lives only in your device’s memory. Only “Download video” saves it as a file – on your device, not on a server.
Why is there no sound in my recording?
Only Chrome and Edge deliver system audio, and only if you leave “Share tab audio” or “Share system audio” switched on in the picker. Whole-screen audio is available there on Windows; on a Mac it is usually tab audio only. Firefox and Safari provide no system audio, but your voice via microphone works in all of them.
Can I record my screen and microphone at the same time?
Yes. Tick both audio options. If the browser delivers system audio and the microphone delivers your voice, both are mixed into one audio track automatically. Headphones prevent echo.
How long can a recording be?
The page sets no fixed limit. However, the video is collected in memory until you download it, so for very long sessions it is best to record in parts.
Can I record my screen on a phone?
Not in the browser: Chrome on Android and every browser on iPhone and iPad do not offer screen sharing to websites. Use the built-in screen recorder instead – in Control Center on iPhone, in Quick Settings on Android.
Why does no picker appear, or why do I get an error?
The page must run over https://, and on macOS the browser needs Screen Recording permission under System Settings → Privacy & Security (restart the browser afterwards). If you simply closed the picker, click “Start recording” again.
Which file format do I get?
MP4 if your browser can record it (Safari, newer Chrome and Edge versions), otherwise WebM (Firefox, older Chrome versions). The format is shown below the preview after recording.
Can this website see my screen before I start?
No. There is only a picture once you share something in the browser’s picker – and only what you chose. While sharing is active, the browser shows it, and you can stop at any time.
