    How it is calculated

    Tenancy agreements, consent forms, permission slips: you are often asked to “sign and return” a PDF. Instead of printing, signing and scanning, add your signature straight into the PDF here – on a phone, tablet or computer.

    How it works

    1. Drop or choose a PDF. The last page is shown as a preview – that is usually where the signature line is; you can change the page number.
    2. Draw your signature (finger, pen, mouse), type your name or choose an image of your signature. For photos, “Remove white background” keeps only the ink.
    3. Tap on the page or drag the signature, adjust the size with the slider and add the date if you like.
    4. Click “Add signature and save” – the new PDF downloads and your original stays unchanged.

    What kind of signature is this?

    A signature added like this is a simple electronic signature. In the EU it is “data in electronic form which is attached to or logically associated with other data in electronic form and which is used by the signatory to sign” (eIDAS Regulation (EU) No 910/2014, Art. 3(10)); it may not be denied legal effect solely because it is electronic (Art. 25(1)). In the United States the ESIGN Act says the same: a signature may not be denied legal effect solely because it is in electronic form (15 U.S.C. § 7001). It is, however, not a qualified electronic signature with a certificate – only that one has the same effect as a handwritten signature under eIDAS (Art. 25(2)). Some documents, such as deeds or certain official forms, need a wet signature or a certified e-signature; if in doubt, ask the recipient which form they accept.

    Honest limits

    The signature is added to the page as an image, without a certificate or tamper protection. Password-protected PDFs cannot be edited, and existing digital signatures become invalid after the change. The fonts used for “Type” come from your device and look different on different systems.

    Privacy

    Document and signature stay on your device: editing uses pdf-lib, the preview pdf.js – both run in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored; when you close the page, the drawn signature is gone too.

    How do I sign a PDF on my iPhone?

    Open this page in Safari, choose the PDF from the Files app and sign with your finger in the drawing area. The signed PDF is saved to your downloads.

    Is a PDF signed this way legally valid?

    It carries a simple electronic signature. In the EU (eIDAS Art. 25(1)) and the US (ESIGN Act) it may not be refused just because it is electronic, but it does not replace a qualified or certificate-based signature where the law requires one.

    Can I use a picture of my real signature?

    Yes. Sign on white paper, take a photo and choose it under “Image”. “Remove white background” makes sure only the ink is added.

    Is my signature stored anywhere?

    No. The signature exists only while the page is open and is never saved or sent.

    Can I add the date automatically?

    Yes – “Add today’s date below” places your device’s current date under the signature in the chosen colour.
