Convert PDF to DOCX
Your PDF becomes an editable DOCX text document that Word, LibreOffice, Pages and Google Docs can open. The conversion runs in your browser – text recognition for scans included – and the PDF is never uploaded.

How it is calculated
Turn a PDF into an editable document
A PDF is made for viewing and printing, not for editing. This tool reads the text from the PDF, arranges it into paragraphs and headings and saves it as DOCX – the open office format defined in ECMA-376, which Word, LibreOffice Writer, Pages and Google Docs can open. Everything runs in your browser.
How it works
- Drop or choose a PDF.
- For scanned documents keep text recognition on and check the language.
- “Convert to DOCX” – then download the DOCX file and keep editing in your word processor.
How the text is extracted
- Text PDFs (created from Word, browsers or invoicing software) contain the text as characters. It is read with pdf.js – fast and without recognition errors.
- Scans are just images. Pages with fewer than 20 characters are treated as scans and read with the Tesseract.js text recognition. That takes a few seconds per page; the first time, the recognition engine and language data (approx. 2–4 MB) are loaded from this website.
- Paragraphs and headings: lines on the same baseline are joined, a larger line gap starts a new paragraph, and clearly larger type becomes a heading. Words hyphenated at the end of a line are rejoined.
Honest limits
- The result is a clean text document, not a layout copy: tables, columns, images, headers and footers, fonts and colours are not carried over. Multi-column text is read line by line across the columns.
- Server-based converters often rebuild complex layouts better – but you have to upload the PDF for that.
- Text recognition makes mistakes on blurry or skewed scans; please proofread.
- Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened.
Privacy
The PDF stays on your device. There is no upload; only the program files of the text recognition are loaded from this website when needed, never from third-party servers.
More tools: Image to text reads text from a photo, and Edit PDF makes changes directly in the PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The PDF is read in your browser and converted into a DOCX file there. It never leaves your device.
How do I convert a PDF to Word?
Drop the PDF here, click “Convert to DOCX” and download the DOCX file. DOCX is Word’s standard format, so you open it there like any other document.
Does it work with scanned PDFs?
Yes. Pages without a text layer are read with text recognition (OCR) – free and without uploading. Choose the document’s language so special characters are recognised correctly.
Is the layout preserved?
Not fully, on purpose. Text, paragraphs, headings and page breaks are kept; tables, images and columns are not. In return you get a clean document you can keep writing in straight away.
Can I edit the converted file?
Yes, the text is fully editable. For scans, check the recognised text, because OCR can confuse individual characters.
Is it free and without sign-up?
Yes – no account, no daily limit and no watermark, text recognition included.
