Rotate Video Online

With rotate video online you fix a clip that plays sideways: turn it 90° clockwise, 90° counter-clockwise or 180°. The tool only changes the rotation flag in the file and copies picture and sound unchanged, so it takes seconds and keeps the quality. Everything happens in your browser.

Your files are processed only in your browser and never uploaded – they don’t leave your device.

The rotation is stored in the file; the picture itself is not recalculated.

How it is calculated

Rotate a video without re-encoding

Many programs recalculate every frame when rotating, which takes time and costs quality. This tool instead writes only the rotation flag into the MP4 file and copies the already compressed picture and sound data bit for bit. A long video is done in seconds and the quality stays exactly the same.

How it works

  1. Drag in or choose a video (MP4 or MOV, for example from an iPhone).
  2. Choose the rotation: 90° right, 90° left or 180°.
  3. Click “Rotate video”, check the result and download it.

Good to know

Privacy

The video is only read piece by piece from your device; there is no upload and no server that sees it. The open-source library Mediabunny (MPL-2.0) reads and writes the video files and is loaded only when you open your first video.

Frequently asked questions

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video is read and processed in your browser and never leaves your device.

Does the video lose quality when rotated?

No. Picture and sound are copied without re-encoding; only the rotation flag in the file changes.

Why is my video still the wrong way round in a player after rotating?

Some programs and older devices ignore the rotation flag in the file. Re-encoding (for example in an editing program) burns the rotation into the frames.

How do I rotate an iPhone video that is sideways instead of upright?

Open the page in Safari, choose the video, set 90° right or left and rotate. The result is saved as MP4.

Can I also mirror a video?

No. This tool only rotates by 90°, 180° or 270°; mirroring requires re-encoding.
