What is kept – and what is not
- Plain text: paragraphs (with a blank line between them if you like), bullet and numbering characters, tables with a tab between cells, page breaks as a blank line.
- Markdown: headings with #, bold and italic, links, lists, tables as pipe tables and page breaks as a horizontal rule. Special characters such as * or _ are escaped.
- Not kept: images and charts, headers and footers, footnotes, text boxes and equations. The number of skipped images is shown.
Limits
This suits letters, reports, minutes and notes. Layout and font are deliberately left out; for a document with its look intact, “Word to PDF” is the right way.
- Only .docx. Save old .doc files once as .docx in Word; password-protected documents cannot be opened.
- Up to 200 MB. Nested tables are flattened into text inside the parent cell; tracked changes show only the inserted text.
