Team name generator

This team name generator is for sports, trivia, work outings or game nights: it combines a quality with an animal or thing into names like “Wild Wolves” or “Clumsy Chameleons”, with alliteration if you like. For trivia nights there are ready-made names too.

    How it is calculated

How the team name generator works

    1. Pick a style: “Strong” for sports teams, “Funny” for groups with humor, “Cute” for kids’ and youth teams or “Ready-made trivia names” for pub quiz night.
    2. Set the number and press “New names”. Any change draws again. The generator shows each name only once.
    3. Copy the names you like with “Copy list” and vote on them as a team.

    How the names are built

The styles “Strong”, “Funny” and “Cute” each have a list of eight adjectives and eight nouns, giving 64 combinations per style. With “Prefer alliteration” pairs whose words start with the same letter are drawn first (“Fearless Foxes”, “Hungry Hamsters”); if there are not enough, the generator fills up with other combinations. The trivia names are written out and shuffled. Drawing uses your browser’s random number generator (Web Crypto).

Tips for a good team name

    Honest limits

The word lists are limited, so words repeat over time. The generator does not check whether a name is already taken somewhere – for leagues or club registers, look that up yourself. Nothing is uploaded.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I find a good team name?

Pick a style, draw several names and vote as a team. Short names with alliteration like “Wild Wolves” stick in the mind best.

Are there funny team names for pub quiz?

Yes, the “Ready-made trivia names” style delivers names such as “Know-It-Alls” or “Quizzly Bears”. For self-built names the “Funny” style fits, for example “Clumsy Chameleons”.

    What is alliteration?

Several words start with the same sound, here the same letter, for example “Mighty Mammoths”. It sounds catchy and is easy to remember.

    Are the names brand-free?

The word lists contain no brand names, clubs, characters or celebrities. A name may still be taken elsewhere; please check briefly before registering.

    How many names are possible?

The styles “Strong”, “Funny” and “Cute” each have 64 combinations, the trivia names 14 ready-made suggestions. The generator never shows a name twice.

Can I split people into teams right away?

Yes, with our “Random team generator” tool you assign people to teams randomly or balanced and enter the generated names there.
