Table tennis scoreboard online

This table tennis scoreboard counts a full match for you: tap the player who won the point and the board ends each game at 11 with a two-point lead, shows whose serve it is and reminds you to change ends. It works for club nights, school PE, the office ping pong table and the garage at home.

How it is calculated

A game of table tennis is won by the first player to reach 11 points, unless both have 10 – then the first to lead by two points wins. This table tennis scoreboard applies that rule, tracks the serve and counts the games of the match.

How to use the scoreboard

  1. Enter the two names (or pairs), choose best of 3, 5 or 7 games and who serves first.
  2. Tap the large box of whoever won the point. The ● shows who serves the next point.
  3. At the end of a game the board saves the game score, adds it to the games won and starts the next game at 0–0 with the other player serving first.
  4. Made a mistake? “Undo point” takes back the last tap, also across the end of a game.

Table tennis scoring rules at a glance

SituationRule
Winning a gamefirst to 11 points; from 10–10 a lead of two points is needed
Winning a matchbest of any odd number of games – usually 5 or 7, often 3 in friendly play
Servechanges after every 2 points
From 10–10the serve changes after every point
Next gamethe player who served first in the previous game receives first
Changing endsafter every game, and in the last possible game when one player first reaches 5 points

Example: at 10–10 the serve alternates point by point. 11–10 is not enough to win; the game ends at 12–10, 13–11 and so on. There is no upper limit.

Ping pong at home: games to 21?

Many people still remember games to 21 with five serves each. That is an older way of counting; today’s Laws of Table Tennis use 11 points and two serves each. The scoreboard follows the current rule. If your group prefers the old count, use the online scoreboard, which counts freely without ending a game.

Doubles

The scoring in doubles is identical, so the board works for pairs too. What it does not show is which of the two partners serves and receives – in doubles the receiver of the previous two points becomes the next server, and the order is fixed for the game. Keep that sequence at the table.

Sharing and big screens

The match is saved as a short point log inside the page: a reload keeps the score, and the share button sends the result as a link, for example to your club’s WhatsApp group. Names are never part of the page address. “Full screen” turns a tablet next to the table into a scoreboard everyone can read; “Swap sides” mirrors the display when players change ends.

For a round robin or knockout evening, pair this page with the tournament bracket generator.

Frequently asked questions

How many points do you play to in table tennis?

A game goes to 11 points. If the score reaches 10–10, the game continues until one player is two points ahead.

How many serves does each player get?

Two in a row. After every two points the serve passes to the other player. From 10–10 the serve changes after every single point.

How many games are in a match?

A match is the best of an odd number of games. Leagues and tournaments mostly play best of 5 or best of 7; the scoreboard also offers best of 3 for quick matches.

Who serves first in the second game?

The player who received first in the previous game. The scoreboard switches the first server automatically at the start of each game.

When do players change ends?

After each game. In the last possible game of the match they also change when the first player reaches 5 points; the board shows a note.

Is ping pong scored differently from table tennis?

No. Ping pong is the everyday name for the same sport, and the same scoring applies. House rules such as games to 21 are not part of the current laws.

Can I use the scoreboard for doubles?

Yes. Enter the two pairs as names. Points, games and the serving pair are tracked; which partner serves is up to you to follow.

Does the score survive if I close the tab by accident?

A reload keeps the score because it is stored in the form of the page. To be safe during a long match, use the share button and keep the link.
