Packing list generator
This packing list generator adapts to your trip: choose beach, city break, hiking, ski, camping or business, how you travel and for how long – and get a list with quantities to tick off and print.
Example: Type of trip: City break · How you travel: Plane · Length 7 days · Can you do laundry on the way: No, pack enough clothes → Your packing list: 20 items for 7 days: city break. Source: Wikipedia – Ten Essentials (basic equipment for hiking). Updated: .
How it is calculated
A week-long city break by plane needs about seven pairs of underwear and socks, five T-shirts, four pairs of trousers and tech including a travel adapter. The packing list generator works this out for your trip.
How the list is built
The type of trip sets the basics: swimwear, sun protection and sandals for the beach; sturdy shoes, a rain jacket and a headlamp for hiking; thermal underwear, gloves and goggles for skiing; a tent and sleeping bag for camping. How you travel adds documents: a boarding pass for flights, a ticket for trains, a driving licence for cars. The hiking gear follows the well-known “Ten Essentials” list for outdoor trips.
Quantities by rule of thumb
- Clothes: underwear and socks for every day, T-shirts about 0.7 per day, trousers one per three days plus a spare.
- Laundry on the way: if you can wash, the list caps the supply at one week and saves luggage.
- Length: on trips of more than a week without laundry options, travel detergent is on the list.
The list is a suggestion, not a rule. Helpful extras: plan a travel budget, check the time difference, work out fuel costs for the drive and convert luggage weight in the weight converter.
Frequently asked questions
What belongs on a holiday packing list?
Documents and money, clothing, toiletries, tech and, depending on the trip, extras such as a hiking daypack or ski pass. The list above assembles this for your trip.
How much clothing should I pack for a week?
As a rule of thumb seven pairs of underwear and socks, five T-shirts and four pairs of trousers. If you can wash on the way, a week's supply is enough even on a longer trip.
Which documents do I need?
Passport or ID card, booking confirmations, insurance papers and, depending on how you travel, a boarding pass, train ticket or driving licence. Entry requirements for your destination are set by that country's authorities.
Can I print the packing list?
Yes, with your browser's print function (Ctrl+P). Every line starts with a box to tick.
Does the list apply to hand luggage too?
It names everything for the trip, not how it is split up. Which sizes and items are allowed in hand luggage is set by each airline.
