How it is calculated

Converting PNG to SVG means turning a pixel image into vector shapes that can be enlarged at will without losing quality. This tool merges the image’s colours into a small palette, follows the edges of every colour area and writes SVG paths from them – in your browser, with no upload and no account.

How it works

  1. Drop in a PNG, JPG or WebP, choose one or paste it with Ctrl + V.
  2. Set the number of colours, level of detail, smoothing and background; the SVG appears next to the original at once and updates with every change.
  3. Download the SVG and use it in Inkscape, Figma, Illustrator or on a web page.

What it is good for – and what not

Limits

The result is a clean tracing, not an original design: check it in a vector program if it is to be used for print or as a logo template. Only use images you have the rights to.

Privacy

The image never leaves your device. Nothing is uploaded. Next steps: SVG to PNG, remove background or compress an image.

Black and white, comparison slider and several images

In the “Black and white” colour mode, a threshold splits the image into black and white before it is traced – this gives clean, small SVGs from line art, stamps and signatures. With the slider on “automatic”, the tool picks the threshold itself (Otsu’s method); a higher value turns more of the image black. Use the slider below the preview to compare the original and the SVG at the same spot. The line above shows colours, paths, points and file size, so you can see at once what a setting costs. You can drop in up to 20 images at once: the settings apply to all of them, and “Download all as ZIP” traces them one after another. Copy the SVG code of the image shown with one click, for example to paste it straight into HTML.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert PNG to SVG?

Drop the image here: the tool traces it at once. Use number of colours, level of detail and smoothing to tune the result and download the SVG.

Can I convert a JPG to SVG?

Yes, also JPG, WebP, GIF and BMP. With JPG the result is usually busier because of compression artefacts; fewer colours and “Coarse” help.

How do I get a transparent background?

Leave “Leave out the background” ticked: the colour of the image corners is then not traced. Transparent PNGs stay transparent anyway.

Why does the SVG look so different for photos?

Tracing reproduces areas with few colours, not gradients. For photos it only works as a style effect.

Is my image uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser.
