    How it is calculated

PNG is the format to pick when a PDF page has to stay sharp as an image: text, tables, charts, logos and plans. Unlike JPG, PNG compresses without loss, so there are no grey fringes around letters, even when you zoom in. The tool renders each page with pdf.js, the PDF engine inside Firefox, right in your browser and saves it as a PNG.

    How it works

    1. Drop in or choose a PDF. The first page appears as a preview.
    2. Choose a resolution: 150 dpi for screens and slides, 300 dpi for print and zooming.
    3. Optionally tick “Transparent background”: everything the PDF does not paint itself stays see-through – handy for logos, stamps and signatures you want to place on a coloured slide.
    4. Optionally enter pages, e.g. “2” or “1-3, 7”. Empty means all pages.
    5. Click “Convert to PNG” and save each image or all of them as a ZIP.

How big will the PNG be?

PDF measures in points; 72 points make an inch (ISO 32000-1). A US Letter page gives 1,275 × 1,650 pixels at 150 dpi and 2,550 × 3,300 pixels at 300 dpi; A4 is 1,240 × 1,754 and 2,480 × 3,508. A PNG of a text page is roughly 150 KB to 1 MB; pages with photos get much larger than a JPG. For photos and scans, PDF to JPG is the better choice.

Transparency: what it can and cannot do

Only areas that are truly empty in the PDF become transparent. Many PDFs from Word, scanners or print templates paint a white box behind the page – that box stays white. Scanned pages are one single picture and never become transparent; for those, use Remove background.

    Privacy

Your PDF never leaves your device. Only the PDF engine (about 0.5 MB) is loaded once from this server, no third-party network. To go the other way, use Images to PDF.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a PDF to PNG?

Drop the PDF in here, choose a resolution and click “Convert to PNG”. Every page becomes its own PNG; download them all at once as a ZIP.

How do I convert a PDF to a high-resolution PNG?

Choose 300 dpi. A Letter page then becomes 2,550 × 3,300 pixels – enough for print and heavy zooming. The tool does not create images above 16.7 megapixels, because Safari cannot display larger ones.

Can the PNG have a transparent background?

Yes, with “Transparent background”. Everything the PDF does not paint itself becomes see-through. If the PDF has a white page background or is a scan, that stays visible.

PNG or JPG – which is better for PDF pages?

PNG for text, tables, graphics and logos, because it is lossless and razor-sharp. JPG for photos and scans, because the files are much smaller.

    Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser; the file and the images stay on your device.

Does it work on Mac, iPhone and Android?

Yes, in Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox – no app needed. On iPhone the PNGs land in the Files app under “Downloads”.
