How it is calculated

Military time is the 24-hour clock written without a colon: 2:30 PM becomes “1430”. The day runs from 0000 (midnight) to 2359, whereas the 12-hour clock counts from 1 to 12 twice and separates morning (AM) from afternoon (PM).

How to use it

Type the time, for example 14:30, 1430 or 2:30 PM. The tool detects the format by itself and shows the 24-hour format, the 12-hour format, the military format, the minutes since midnight and decimal hours (14:30 = 14.5 hours). Below you find a table of all 24 hours for quick lookup.

Frequently asked questions

How do you convert military time to standard time?

From 13 to 23 subtract 12 and add PM: 1830 is 6:30 PM. Before 12:00 keep the number and add AM, from 12:00 on use PM.

What are 0000 and 2400?

0000 is the start of a day (midnight); in some schedules 2400 marks its end. This tool treats 2400 as 00:00.

Is 12 AM midnight or noon?

12 AM is midnight (00:00), 12 PM is noon (12:00). Because people mix them up, “12 noon” and “12 midnight” are often written out.

How do you say military time?

You read two numbers: 0730 is “zero seven thirty”, 1500 is “fifteen hundred hours”.

Where is the 24-hour clock used?

It is everyday practice in much of Europe and standard in the military, aviation and medicine worldwide. In the United States the 12-hour clock with AM/PM is common in daily life.
