How many days until Ramadan? The countdown runs to the second until the first day of fasting, 1 Ramadan 1448 AH – by the Umm al-Qura calendar Monday, 8 February 2027. It uses your device’s clock and moves on to the next Ramadan by itself.

How it is calculated
When does Ramadan 2027 start?
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. A lunar year has 354 or 355 days, so Ramadan starts about 11 days earlier every year. This page uses the Umm al-Qura calendar of Saudi Arabia; the Turkish Diyanet also gives 8 February 2027 as the first day of Ramadan 1448.

How the countdown works
The target is 12:00 a.m. local time on the first day of fasting, recalculated every second. The first Tarawih prayer is held the evening before. Example: on 1 November 2026 there are 99 days left – 14 weeks and 1 days.
The end of fasting and Eid al-Fitr for each year are on Ramadan dates; all Islamic holidays of 2027 are on Islamic holidays 2027.
Calculation or moon sighting?
Who fixes the start depends on the country. Saudi Arabia announces it after a moon sighting confirmed by its Supreme Court; the Umm al-Qura calendar used here is its calculated civil calendar. Turkey’s Diyanet sets the date in advance by astronomical calculation. Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs decides at the isbat session, based on sighting reports and the MABIMS criteria (moon at least 3° high and at least 6.4° from the sun). Many mosques in Europe and North America follow one of these announcements or their own sighting. In 2027 the methods agree: the new moon falls on 6 February at 15:56 UTC, too late for a visible crescent that evening, while at sunset on 7 February the crescent stands about 9° high in Mecca and about 6° in Jakarta. Countries that rely on sighting will therefore announce the start on the evening of 7 February.
Limits
The countdown uses your device clock. In years when the crescent is borderline, the actual start can differ by one day from the table.

The Islamic calendar follows the moon. Its year is about 11 days shorter than the solar year, so Ramadan travels backwards through the seasons.
