How it is calculated
How the countdown to a date works
The countdown uses your device clock: remaining time = target date − now, recalculated every second in your local time zone. If a daylight saving change falls inside the period, the display is still correct, because it counts real elapsed time – the day of the autumn change has 25 hours.
Example: On Saturday, 26 September 2026 at 12:00, a countdown to Christmas Eve (24 December 2026, 00:00) shows 88 days and 13 hours – 2,125 hours in total. A plain calendar count would give 88 days and 12 hours; the extra hour comes from the clocks going back on 25 October 2026.
Dates can be entered as 2026-12-24, 12/24/2026 (month/day/year) or 24.12.2026.
Presets: New Year, Christmas Eve, Friday, end of day
The buttons above the counter jump straight to the four most common targets: New Year for a New Year's countdown (next 1 January, 00:00), Christmas Eve (24 December, 00:00), Friday 5 pm for the countdown to the weekend, and Today 5 pm for the rest of the workday. Each preset fills in the target date, time and event name automatically; once a date has passed this year, the preset moves on to next year's occurrence.

For events without a preset, just enter the date. Day counts are an example from Thursday, 1 October 2026, 00:00:

For a Christmas Day countdown instead of Christmas Eve, enter 25 December and optionally “Christmas” as the event name. The line below the counter also converts the time left into weeks and days.
New Year's countdown: what exactly it counts to
The “New Year” preset counts to 1 January, 00:00 in your device's local time. If you celebrate in another time zone, you automatically see the time left until local midnight there, as long as your device clock is set to local time.

How do I create a countdown to a specific date?
Enter a target date (and optionally a time and an event name) – the countdown starts immediately. The presets above fill in the fields for common targets like New Year or Christmas Eve.
How many days until Christmas?
Choose the “Christmas Eve” preset to start a Christmas countdown – it shows days, hours, minutes and seconds until 24 December, 00:00. If it has already passed this year, it counts to next year.
How many days until New Year?
The “New Year” preset sets the target to the next 1 January, 00:00 automatically – and without any input at all, the countdown already counts down to New Year by default.
Can I share my countdown, for example on WhatsApp?
Yes. Your inputs are part of the URL. Send the link by WhatsApp, email or any messenger – the recipient opens it in the browser and sees the same countdown, calculated with their own device clock.
Can I embed the countdown on my own website?
Yes, the countdown is available as an embeddable widget – for example for a sale announcement, a product launch or a wedding page. Target date, time and event name carry over exactly as in the shared link.
Is daylight saving time taken into account?
Yes. The calculation uses real points in time in your local time zone, so a clock change inside the period adds or removes one hour.
How many days until Halloween or Thanksgiving?
Enter the date – 31 October for Halloween, the fourth Thursday in November for US Thanksgiving (26 November in 2026) – and optionally an event name. The countdown shows days, hours, minutes and seconds right away.
What happens when the date is reached?
The countdown shows that the target has been reached and keeps counting the time elapsed since then – useful for anniversaries or to see how long ago something happened.
