How it is calculated

When is Diwali?

Diwali follows the Hindu lunisolar calendar, so its date in the Gregorian calendar moves every year, usually between mid-October and mid-November. This page uses the date of Deepavali in the official holiday lists of the Government of India (Department of Personnel and Training), where it is a gazetted holiday.

2027Friday, 29 October 2027

How the countdown works

The target is 12:00 a.m. local time on Diwali, recalculated every second. Example: on 15 October 2026 there are 24 days left – 3 weeks and 3 days. To count down to Lakshmi Puja or another evening time, enter the date and time above.

Other Hindu festivals of the year are on Hindu festivals 2026; for any other date use the countdown to a date.

Limits

The countdown uses your device clock. Regional calendars in India and communities abroad may celebrate a day earlier or later than the central government date. Dates after 2027 are added once the next official holiday list is published.
