Jigsaw puzzle from your photo

Make a jigsaw puzzle from a photo: pick a photo from your phone or computer and it’s cut into pieces with tabs and blanks. Drag the pieces onto the picture – when one fits, it snaps into place. No photo to hand? Play one of the built-in pictures.

How it is calculated

How to make a jigsaw puzzle from your photo

  1. Choose a photo: tap “Choose your photo” and pick an image from your gallery or computer. Landscape photos are cropped to 4 : 3 and portrait photos to 3 : 4 (centred).
  2. Set the number of pieces: 12 for kids, 48 to 96 for a relaxed session, 150 for a proper challenge. On a phone, 12 to 48 pieces feel best.
  3. Solve it: drag pieces from the tray onto the picture. When a piece is close enough to its spot, it snaps in and stays put. The clock starts with your first move.

Jigsaw tips

How the pieces are made

The picture is split into a grid of columns and rows (6 × 4 for 24 pieces, for example). For every inner edge, chance decides which piece gets the tab and which gets the matching blank, so every round has new shapes. Each piece is then cut out along its outline using the browser’s canvas API. The jigsaw itself goes back to London mapmaker John Spilsbury, who in the 1760s mounted maps on wood and cut them along the borders as a geography teaching aid.

Privacy and limits

Your photo never leaves your device: it’s processed in the browser’s memory and not saved – reload the page and it’s gone. That’s also why a photo puzzle can’t be shared as a link. The built-in pictures, however, are drawn from a random number, so “Share result” sends a link to exactly that picture and the same pieces. Settings and best times per piece count are kept in localStorage (key fotopuzzle). This isn’t a service for ordering or printing a physical puzzle – it’s an on-screen jigsaw only.

Another photo game: the sliding puzzle with your own picture.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a jigsaw puzzle from a photo online?

Right here in your browser: tap “Choose your photo”, pick an image and set the number of pieces. The photo is cut up instantly and never uploaded.

Is this jigsaw puzzle free with no sign-up?

Yes. It runs entirely in the browser on phones, tablets and computers – no account, no app.

How many pieces can the photo puzzle have?

You can choose 12, 24, 48, 96 or 150 pieces. More than that makes little sense on a screen because the pieces get too small.

Is my photo stored anywhere?

No. The image is only processed in the open tab. Only your settings and best times are saved, and only in your browser.

Is it a good jigsaw puzzle for kids?

Yes – with 12 pieces and the guide image switched on, even young children can manage. A photo of the family or a pet makes it extra fun.
