How it is calculated
How to convert cm to feet
feet = centimeters ÷ 30.48. For 175 cm: 175 ÷ 30.48 = 5.741 ft. Going back, centimeters = feet × 30.48: 6 ft × 30.48 = 182.88 cm. The 30.48 is exact, because a foot is defined as 0.3048 m (and an inch as 2.54 cm).
Why 5.741 ft is not 5 ft 7.41 in
Nobody says their height as 5.741 feet. In feet and inches, take the whole feet and convert the remainder to inches: 175 cm = 68.898 in = 5 × 12 + 8.9, so 5 ft 8.9 in. The decimal part of a foot is not inches: 0.741 ft × 12 = 8.9 in. In the same way 5.5 ft is 5 ft 6 in (167.64 cm), not 5 ft 5 in.
