      How it is calculated

      Many applications need a biometric photo in an exact size. You can take a well-lit portrait against a plain, light background yourself; the hard part is usually the precise crop. This tool does that – including a print sheet you can order as an ordinary 4 × 6 in (10 × 15 cm) photo print and cut out.

      How it works

      1. Choose a portrait photo: facing the camera, neutral expression, even light, plain light background.
      2. Choose country and size. Only sizes backed by an official source are included (see sources below).
      3. Move the photo in the preview and use zoom until the top of the head sits on the red line and the chin inside the red band.
      4. Click “Create passport photo”: you get a single photo at 600 dpi and a 4 × 6 in print sheet at 300 dpi.

      The sizes

      With a 3 mm margin and 2 mm gaps, a 4 × 6 in sheet holds six 35 × 45 mm photos, two 50 × 60 mm photos or twelve 26 × 32 mm photos. Millimetres are converted to pixels using 1 inch = 25.4 mm; print the sheet at actual size (100 %, no “fit to page”).

      Honest limits

      The tool only crops. It does not detect faces and does not check whether lighting, sharpness, background, head position or glasses meet the rules – the authority decides. US passport photos (2 × 2 in) and other countries without an official size we could verify are deliberately left out. For German ID cards and passports applied for in Germany, photos have been transmitted digitally since May 2025.

      What size is a UK passport photo?

      35 mm wide by 45 mm high, with the head (chin to crown) between 29 and 34 mm, according to GOV.UK.

      Can I make my own passport photo?

      Often yes, if the photo meets the official rules on lighting, background and expression. Some services only accept digital photos or codes from approved photographers – check the rules of the office you apply to.

      How do I print the passport photos?

      Order the print sheet as a standard 4 × 6 in (10 × 15 cm) photo print, or print it on photo paper at actual size (100 %) and cut the photos out.

      How many passport photos fit on a 4 × 6 print?

      Six photos of 35 × 45 mm, two of 50 × 60 mm or twelve of 26 × 32 mm.

      Does the tool check that my photo is biometric?

      No. It only crops to size and shows guides for the head size. Whether light, background and expression are acceptable is up to the authority.
