Crop Image Online

How it is calculated
Cropping removes the edges of a picture and keeps only the part that matters. The pixels inside the crop stay exactly as they were – unlike resizing.
How to crop an image
- Drop in or choose an image.
- Choose an aspect ratio (free, 1:1, 16:9 or a social media preset) and move the frame with mouse, finger or arrow keys.
- Save the crop.
Example: a 4000 × 3000 pixel photo cropped square (1:1) gives at most 3000 × 3000 pixels – with no loss of sharpness, because only the edges are removed.
Crop, resize or look up sizes?
- Crop (this tool): cut away parts of the image, e.g. make a portrait square or trim a screenshot down to what matters.
- Resize image: scale the whole image to new pixel dimensions or a percentage, e.g. 4000 px wide photos down to 1920 px.
- Social media image sizes: a table of the official sizes per platform with sources – the same values power the presets here.

Cropping with a preset
Pick a social media preset and it locks the aspect ratio; when you save, the crop is resized to the platform's exact pixels (e.g. 1080 × 1350 px). If your crop is smaller than the preset, it gets enlarged – the tool tells you, because enlarging makes the image softer.
Format and quality
“Same as original” saves JPG as JPG, PNG as PNG and WebP as WebP; other formats (GIF, BMP, HEIC) become PNG. For JPG you can set the quality and a background colour for transparent areas. For other formats use the image converter; for smaller files, compress image.
Privacy
Cropping happens entirely in your browser. The image is not uploaded, and EXIF data such as GPS location is not carried over when you save.

How do I crop an image to a square?
Choose the “1:1” aspect ratio, move the box over your subject and click “Crop and download”.
Does cropping reduce image quality?
No, the pixels inside the crop are kept. Only saving as JPG re-compresses; at 90 % quality you will not see a difference. PNG is lossless.
What is the difference between cropping and resizing?
Cropping removes parts of the image; resizing scales the whole image. For the latter, use the “Resize image” tool.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. You can drag the box and its corners with your finger, and iPhone photos in HEIC format are supported too.
Can I position the crop pixel-precisely?
Yes, with the keyboard: click the box or select it with Tab, then the arrow keys move it, Shift + arrow keys resize it, and Alt switches to 1-pixel steps. The size is shown below the image.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The image is opened, cropped and saved in your browser and never leaves your device.
