How it is calculated
A household budget records how much money comes in and where it goes – the result is the balance and the savings rate. Knowing your spending by category quickly shows where you can save.
How to keep your budget here
- Write each entry on one line: category, semicolon, amount. Income positive, spending with a minus.
- Equal categories are added up automatically – “Groceries; -80” several times gives the monthly total.
- Read the balance, savings rate and biggest items, and save the chart.
- Export the entries as CSV if you want to keep working in Excel.
Everyday tips
- Few categories: eight to twelve are enough. Finer splits do not last.
- Enter regularly: once a week beats one big session at the end of the month.
- See fixed costs separately: rent and insurance rarely change – the savings potential usually lies in groceries, leisure and transport.
Your entries are stored in the browser and never uploaded; use “Save entries as CSV” as a backup.
Frequently asked questions
How do I keep a household budget?
Enter income and spending as lines: category, semicolon, amount. The tool adds up equal categories and shows the balance, savings rate and biggest items.
How is the savings rate calculated?
Balance divided by income: someone who earns 3,000 and spends 1,800 keeps 1,200 – a savings rate of 40%.
Can I save my budget as an Excel file?
Yes, as CSV. The file opens in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets for further analysis.
How do I enter income and expenses?
Income as a positive number, spending with a minus, for example “Salary; 3200” and “Rent; -1100”. A date before the category is optional.
Is there a printable household budget template?
The chart can be saved as PNG and printed. An empty list gives you a blank template for writing by hand.
Is my financial data safe?
Everything is calculated and stored in your browser; there is no upload and no account.
