WAEC grade calculator (WASSCE, A1 to F9)
This WAEC grade calculator turns your subject scores into WASSCE grades from A1 to F9 and counts your credit passes. Type one subject per line with its score out of 100 – or with the grade from your result slip – and the table shows grade, remark and whether the subject is a credit.
How it is calculated
A WAEC grade runs from A1 (75–100) down to F9 (0–39); a credit is any grade from A1 to C6, that is a score of 50 or more. The calculator looks up each of your scores in this table and counts the credits.
WAEC grading system from A1 to F9
| Grade | Score | Remark | Credit? |
|---|---|---|---|
| A1 | 75–100 | Excellent | yes |
| B2 | 70–74 | Very good | yes |
| B3 | 65–69 | Good | yes |
| C4 | 60–64 | Credit | yes |
| C5 | 55–59 | Credit | yes |
| C6 | 50–54 | Credit | yes |
| D7 | 45–49 | Pass | no |
| E8 | 40–44 | Pass | no |
| F9 | 0–39 | Fail | no |
How to use the WAEC grade calculator
- Type each subject on its own line, followed by the score out of 100.
- Read the grade and remark for every subject in the table.
- Check the result line: it counts how many of your subjects are credits (A1 to C6).
- The line “English and Mathematics” tells you whether these two subjects are among your credits.
Example
The preloaded list has nine subjects: English Language 68 (B3), Mathematics 74 (B2), Biology 63 (C4), Chemistry 55 (C5), Physics 49 (D7), Economics 81 (A1), Civic Education 77 (A1), Geography 52 (C6) and Agricultural Science 38 (F9). Seven of the nine are credits; Physics is a pass and Agricultural Science a fail.
Why credits matter
C6 is the lowest grade that counts as a credit. Universities, polytechnics and colleges state their entry requirements as a number of credit passes in named subjects, and English Language and Mathematics are asked for by most courses. A D7 or E8 is a pass on the certificate but is not a credit – candidates who need the subject for admission normally sit it again. The exact subject combination for your course is in the admission brochure of the institution.
Mock exams and target scores
Teachers can use the table to grade mock exams on the WASSCE pattern, and students can see how far a score is from the next band: 49 is one mark below C6, 74 one mark below A1. To turn marks from papers with different totals into a percentage first, use the percentage calculator for marks. After admission, the CGPA calculator for Nigeria takes over.

A1 is 75 to 100. B2 is 70–74 and B3 is 65–69.
What is C6 in WAEC?
C6 is a score of 50 to 54. It is the lowest credit grade.
Is D7 a pass in WAEC?
D7 (45–49) and E8 (40–44) are passes, but they are not credits. Courses that require a credit in the subject do not accept them.
What score is F9?
F9 is any score from 0 to 39 and means fail.
How do I calculate my WAEC result?
Look up each subject score in the grade table – or type the subjects and scores here – and count the grades from A1 to C6. That number is your credit count.
How many credits do I have with these scores: 68, 74, 63, 55, 49?
Four: 68 is B3, 74 is B2, 63 is C4 and 55 is C5. The 49 is a D7, a pass but not a credit.
Can I enter grades instead of scores?
Yes. Write the grade at the end of the line, for example “Chemistry C5”. The calculator then counts it without a score.
Does this work for Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia and The Gambia?
The A1 to F9 grades are the WASSCE grades used across the WAEC member countries. Admission rules built on them differ by country and institution.
Are these the official WAEC cut-off marks?
They are the bands commonly published for the WASSCE. The grade on your result slip is the official one and may reflect WAEC’s own standard-setting.
