Remove Audio from Video

This tool lets you remove audio from a video: choose the file, tap one button and you have a silent video. The picture is copied unchanged into a new file – no re-encoding, so it takes seconds and there is no quality loss. Everything runs in your browser; the video is never uploaded.

How it is calculated

Remove the sound from a video without re-encoding it

A video file is a container: picture and sound are stored as separate tracks. This tool writes the video track bit for bit into a new file and simply leaves the audio track out. Because nothing is recalculated, even a long video takes only seconds, and the picture quality, resolution and rotation of portrait videos stay exactly the same. The file usually gets a bit smaller because the sound is gone.

How it works

  1. Drop or select a video (MP4, MOV from an iPhone, WebM, MKV).
  2. Tap “Remove audio” – the file info shows beforehand whether and which audio it contains.
  3. Preview the silent video and download it.

What stays and what does not

Remove audio or just mute it?

Muting in a player does not change the file – the sound is still inside and others can hear it. Here the audio track really disappears, for example when you want to share a clip without music or background conversation. If you need only the sound instead, use video to MP3.

Privacy

The video is read from your device in pieces; nothing is uploaded and no server sees it. The open-source library Mediabunny (MPL-2.0) reads and writes the video files and is only loaded when you pick your first video. To shorten a clip use trim video, to make it smaller compress video.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove audio from a video?

Select the video and tap “Remove audio”. The audio track is left out and the picture stays unchanged. Then download the silent video.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The video is read and processed in your browser and never leaves your device.

How do I remove audio from an iPhone video?

Open the page in Safari, choose the video from your library and tap “Remove audio”. iPhone videos (MOV) are saved as MP4 without sound.

Does the video lose quality?

No. The picture is copied without re-encoding and stays identical bit for bit. Only the audio track is missing.

Can I add sound back later?

The new file contains no audio, but your original with sound stays untouched on your device. To add new sound you need a video editor.

How long can the video be?

The file can be up to 4 GB. It is read in pieces; the finished video sits in memory at the end.
