Online voice recorder
Click, speak, done: the voice recorder records from your microphone only in your browser. Play back several recordings, rename them and save them as files – no sign-up, no upload.
How it is calculated
A voice memo, a short interview, an audition clip or practising a speech: this voice recorder records right in your browser, on your phone or computer. You need no app and no account, and the recording is never sent anywhere.
How to record
- Click “Start recording” and choose Allow in the browser prompt.
- Speak. The clock shows the recording time, the bar the level. If the bar turns red it is too loud – move a little away from the microphone.
- Pause interrupts, Resume continues in the same file. Paused time is not counted.
- Stop ends the recording and releases the microphone. The clip appears in the list.
- In the list you can play every recording, click the name to rename it and download it. The name becomes the file name.
File format: WebM or M4A
Your browser records in the format it supports itself. Chrome, Edge and Firefox save WebM with the Opus speech codec; Safari on iPhone, iPad and Mac saves M4A (AAC). Current browsers, VLC and the Windows and Mac players can play both. One minute of speech is usually about 0.3 to 1 MB. If you need MP3, convert the file afterwards.
Honest limits
- Recordings live only in this tab’s memory. Closing or reloading deletes them – your browser warns you first. Download what you want to keep.
- Very long recordings (several hours) use a matching amount of memory; older phones reach their limit sooner.
- Phones often interrupt recording when the screen locks or you switch apps. Keep the page open while recording.
- Your browser sets echo and noise suppression itself; sound quality depends mostly on the microphone and the room. Headset microphones usually sound clearer than built-in laptop mics.
Privacy
Recording, level metering and playback run entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is written to browser storage – not even the names of your recordings. After “Stop” and when you leave the page, the microphone is released.

How do I record my voice on a computer?
Open this page, click “Start recording”, allow the microphone and speak. Press “Stop” and the recording is ready to play and download – no software needed.
Are my recordings uploaded?
No. The recording is created and kept in your browser. Only when you click “Download” is it saved as a file on your device.
What format are recordings saved in?
Depending on the browser, WebM (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) or M4A (Safari). Common players handle both. For MP3, convert the file afterwards.
How long can I record?
There is no fixed limit. The recording is kept in memory; an hour of speech is usually 20 to 60 MB. For very long sessions a computer works better than a phone.
Does the voice recorder work on iPhone?
Yes, in Safari from iOS 14.5 and in other current browsers. The file is saved as M4A and ends up in the Files app after downloading. Keep the screen on while recording.
Can I pause a recording?
Yes. “Pause” interrupts and “Resume” continues in the same file. The timer does not count paused time.
Are my recordings still there after closing the page?
No. For privacy, the page stores nothing permanently. Download every recording you want to keep; your browser warns you before the tab closes.
Why is my recording so quiet?
Usually the system input volume is low or the wrong microphone is active. On Windows: Settings → System → Sound → Input; on a Mac: System Settings → Sound → Input. The mic test shows which device is picked up.
