eDPI calculator

This eDPI calculator multiplies your mouse DPI by the in-game sensitivity, converts it into centimeters per 360° turn and finds the matching sensitivity for a new DPI.

Example: Mouse DPI (CPI) 800 · In-game sensitivity 1.25 · Yaw factor (degrees per count at sensitivity 1) 0.022 · New DPI (to convert the sensitivity) 1,600 → Result: eDPI 1,000 · 41.56 cm per 360°. Source: Valve Software, Source SDK 2013, src/game/client/in_mouse.cpp: ConVar m_yaw default 0.022 (“Mouse yaw factor”), sensitivity default 3; view yaw += m_yaw × mouse movement × sensitivity (read 14.10.2026). Updated: .

0.022 is the Source engine default (m_yaw). Other games use other factors.

Calculated without mouse acceleration: degrees per count = yaw × sensitivity (Valve Source SDK), distance = counts ÷ DPI inches.

How it is calculated

eDPI = mouse DPI × in-game sensitivity. 800 DPI at sensitivity 1.25 gives an eDPI of 1000, exactly like 1600 DPI at 0.625. With the Source yaw factor 0.022 that is 41.56 cm of mouse movement for a full 360° turn.

From eDPI to cm/360

In the Valve Source SDK the view turns by m_yaw × sensitivity degrees for every count the mouse reports, and m_yaw defaults to 0.022. One full turn therefore takes 360 ÷ (0.022 × sensitivity) counts; dividing by the DPI gives inches, times 2.54 gives centimeters:

Examples (yaw 0.022)

DPISensitivityeDPIcm/360

8001.25100041.56
8002160025.98
16000.580051.95

The first and last rows feel the same: equal eDPI and equal yaw mean equal distance per turn. eDPI only compares players within the same game; between games with different yaw factors compare cm/360 instead. Check your sensor with the mouse test and practise with the aim trainer.

Limits

The figures assume raw input without mouse acceleration and the DPI your mouse actually delivers, which can differ slightly from the label. The yaw factor of your game must be entered by you if it is not 0.022.

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate eDPI?

Multiply the mouse DPI by the in-game sensitivity: 800 DPI × 1.25 = 1000 eDPI.

What is a good eDPI?

There is no single right value; it depends on the game and your style. Compare cm/360 instead – 400 DPI at sensitivity 2 (800 eDPI) means about 51.95 cm per turn with yaw 0.022.

How do I keep my sensitivity when I change DPI?

Keep the eDPI: new sensitivity = old eDPI ÷ new DPI. 1000 eDPI at 1600 DPI needs a sensitivity of 0.625.

What is cm/360?

The distance you move the mouse for a full 360° turn in game: 360 ÷ (yaw × sensitivity × DPI) × 2.54.

Is eDPI the same in every game?

No. Games use different yaw factors, so the same eDPI can turn at different speeds. Use cm/360 to compare between games.
