Sitemap XML generator: build sitemap.xml from your URL list

This sitemap XML generator turns a plain list of page addresses into a valid sitemap.xml following the Sitemaps protocol. Duplicate, invalid and foreign-domain addresses are caught, special characters are escaped, and the finished file can be copied or downloaded.

How it is calculated

A sitemap.xml is a list of the pages on your website that helps search engines such as Google and Bing find new and changed pages. This tool builds the file from a simple address list, with no account, no upload and no limit to a few pages.

How to create the sitemap

 1. Enter the domain above if you want to paste only paths such as /contact. Full addresses work without it.
 2. Paste the addresses, one per line. A list from your CMS or a crawler is enough.
 3. If needed, choose lastmod, changefreq, priority and the form with or without a trailing slash.
 4. Copy the result or download it as sitemap.xml, place the file in the root of your domain and submit it in Search Console.

What is checked

The tool follows the Sitemaps protocol: UTF-8, escaped special characters (& becomes &), umlauts and spaces percent-encoded, at most 2,048 characters per address. Duplicate addresses, other domains and anchors (#) are filtered out. It also reports mixed http/https addresses and files above 50,000 addresses or 50 MB.

Good to know

Your addresses are processed in your browser only and are neither sent nor stored.

Frequently asked questions

How do I create a sitemap for my website?

Paste the addresses of your pages, one per line. The tool builds a sitemap.xml that you download and place in the root of your domain.

Where must sitemap.xml be located?

The root is the usual place, for example https://your-domain.com/sitemap.xml. A sitemap may only contain addresses on the same domain and in that directory or below.

How many URLs can a sitemap contain?

At most 50,000 addresses and 50 MB uncompressed. For more pages, split the list into several sitemaps and combine them in a sitemap index file.

Do I need priority and changefreq?

No. Google has said it ignores both. Only a correct lastmod is useful, so you can leave these fields out.

How do I submit the sitemap to Google?

Enter the file’s address in Google Search Console under “Sitemaps”, or add a “Sitemap:” line with the full address to your robots.txt.

Are my addresses stored?

No. The list is processed in your browser only, not sent, not stored and not written to the address bar.
