When do the clocks change?
At the top you see when the clocks change next in your time zone and whether they spring forward or fall back. Below: dates for any country in the list and an overview of where clocks no longer change.
How it is calculated
When does daylight saving time start and end?
In the United States, daylight saving time begins on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November, at 2:00 a.m. local time (15 U.S.C. § 260a). States may opt out and stay on standard time all year – Arizona (Phoenix) is the best-known example.
- 2026: Sunday, March 8 (spring forward) and Sunday, November 1 (fall back)
- 2027: Sunday, March 14 and Sunday, November 7
In the EU the rule is different: clocks go forward on the last Sunday in March and back on the last Sunday in October, at 01:00 UTC (EU Directive 2000/84/EC); the UK changes on the same dates, as the table shows. For a few weeks each spring and autumn, the time difference between New York and London is therefore one hour smaller than usual. In the southern hemisphere it’s the other way round: Sydney and Auckland spring forward in September/October and fall back in April.
How the page calculates
The source is the IANA time zone database (tzdata) that ships with your browser. The page scans the time zone week by week for a change in the UTC offset and then pins it down to the minute. No rules are hard-coded – when a country changes its practice, it shows up with the next browser update. The countdown runs to the moment of the change in your time zone.
Limits
If your browser’s tzdata is outdated, very recent changes may be missing. For countries with several time zones (US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, Russia) a row applies only to the sample zone named.
Frequently asked questions
When does daylight saving time end in 2026?
In the US on Sunday, November 1, 2026 at 2:00 a.m., when clocks fall back to 1:00 a.m. In the EU and the UK it ends a week earlier, on October 25, 2026.
When do clocks spring forward in 2027?
In the US on Sunday, March 14, 2027 at 2:00 a.m.; in the EU and the UK on Sunday, March 28, 2027.
Do we gain or lose an hour in November?
You gain one: at 2:00 a.m. the clock goes back to 1:00 a.m., so the night is an hour longer. In March you lose an hour.
Is daylight saving time permanent now?
No. Federal law still sets the March and November changes, and states may only choose permanent standard time. This page shows the dates in your browser’s time zone database.
Which countries don’t use daylight saving time?
Among others Japan, China, India, Indonesia, Turkey and Brazil currently don’t change their clocks, according to the time zone database. The table covers every country in the list.
