Price per sheet calculator

When you work out the price per sheet of toilet paper, the roll count alone says little. Enter up to four offers with price, rolls, sheets per roll and plies – the calculator shows the price per 100 sheets, ply-adjusted, and which offer is cheapest. The same works for paper towels, laundry loads and servings.

How it is calculated

In short: price per sheet is the honest comparison for toilet paper. From price, roll count and sheets per roll the calculator works out the price per 100 sheets. With the number of plies it also shows the ply-adjusted price, because a four-ply sheet holds more paper than a three-ply one.

How it works

  1. Choose Paper and enter price, rolls, sheets per roll and plies for each offer – the values are printed on the pack.
  2. The calculator names the cheapest offer, the best price and a table with price per roll, price per 100 sheets and the extra cost.
  3. For laundry detergent, diapers or coffee pods choose By count and give the unit, for example laundry loads.

How it is calculated

Total sheets = rolls × sheets per roll. Price per 100 sheets = price ÷ total sheets × 100. Ply-adjusted: total sheets × plies gives the total of ply-sheets, and the price is related to that. Example: 2.49 for 8 rolls of 150 sheets and 3 plies is 1,200 sheets, so 0.21 per 100 sheets and 0.07 per 100 sheets ply-adjusted. For counts the formula is price ÷ quantity. The calculation assumes sheets of the same size.

Honest limits

The calculator compares only quantity and price, not quality, strength, softness or eco labels. Sheet size can also differ by brand; where it is known, look at length and width. For the general unit price by weight or volume there is the unit price calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the price per sheet of toilet paper?

Divide the price by the total number of sheets: rolls times sheets per roll. The calculator does this for up to four offers and gives the price per 100 sheets.

Why do plies matter?

A four-ply sheet contains more paper than a two-ply one. The ply-adjusted price shows what the amount of paper costs and can change the ranking compared with the plain price per sheet.

Can I also compare paper towels or tissues?

Yes, with the “Paper” template: paper towels by sheets per roll, tissues by sheets per pack (set rolls to 1).

How do I work out the price per laundry load?

Choose “By count” and the unit “Load”, then enter the price and the loads stated on the pack. The calculator gives the price per load and the extra cost of the more expensive offer.

Is the cheapest offer always the best?

Not necessarily. The calculator only rates price per quantity. You cannot see quality, skin tolerance or shelf life from it.

Where do I find the sheet count and plies?

On the pack, usually near the roll count. Rolls, sheets per roll and plies are required entries; if one is missing, check the retailer’s product description.
