Notes
  • The calculation used a pallet of 120 × 80 cm and 14.4 cm height.
  • For 500 boxes you need 11 pallets, which is about 4.4 loading metres.
The layer pattern is a guide made of one or two blocks; special patterns such as the pinwheel sometimes fit one more box. Stability, tip protection and the carrier's height and weight limits take priority.

How it is calculated

A euro pallet (120 × 80 cm) takes eight boxes of 40 × 30 × 25 cm per layer; at 180 cm total height that is six layers and 48 boxes per pallet. The calculator finds the layer pattern and works out height, weight and pallets needed.

How it is calculated

The common pallets

The euro pallet measures 1200 × 800 mm, the industrial pallet 1200 × 1000 mm and North America commonly uses 48 × 40 inches. Pick any of the three above.

Frequently asked questions

How many boxes fit on a euro pallet?

It depends on the box. For 40 × 30 cm it is eight per layer, for 60 × 40 cm four. Layers times boxes per layer gives the amount per pallet, which the calculator does for you.

How high can a loaded pallet be?

Road freight often allows 180 cm including the pallet, air freight or parcel services less. The limit is adjustable, but your carrier's rule is binding.

What are loading metres?

A loading metre is one metre of load length at 2.4 m width, so 2.4 m². A euro pallet counts as 0.4 loading metres.

What is the difference between a euro pallet and an industrial pallet?

The euro pallet is 1200 × 800 mm, the industrial pallet 1200 × 1000 mm. Different boxes and quantities fit on each.

How heavy can a pallet be?

It depends on the pallet and transport; a euro pallet usually carries up to 1500 kg. The calculator uses an adjustable guide of 1000 kg total weight.
