Typing game: shoot the falling words

In this typing game, words drop from the top. Type a word in full and it’s gone – let it reach the ground and you lose a life. Every ten hits the pace picks up. How far can you get?

    How the typing game works

    1. Start: pick a level and tap “Start”. On a phone, the keyboard opens automatically.
    2. Shoot: type a falling word. The game highlights the word you’re aiming at; once it’s complete, it vanishes and scores points. Upper and lower case don’t matter.
    3. Lives: you have three. Every word that reaches the red ground costs one.
    4. Levels: every ten hits the level goes up – words fall faster and come more often.

    Where the words come from

The words are the most common English words by length (frequency data from wordfreq), the same basis as our word lists, with vulgar words filtered out. Easy uses 3–5 letters, Medium 4–7, Hard 6–10. New words try to start with a letter that isn’t already on screen, so it’s always clear which word you mean.

    Limits and privacy

Only words you actually shoot count; typos you correct cost no points, just time. Phone keyboards may try to autocorrect – the input box asks them not to, but some keyboard apps ignore that. Settings and leaderboard are kept in localStorage (key tippspiel); nothing is sent to a server. “Share result” sends a link with the same words in the same order.

Accuracy: next to your score and words per minute, the game shows how cleanly you type – correctly typed characters divided by all characters including wrong entries. If you are fast but sloppy, you see it here straight away.

    Frequently asked questions

Is there a free typing game online?

Yes – this typing game runs free in your browser with no sign-up and no download, on a computer keyboard or on a phone.

Are typing games good for learning to type?

Games build speed and accuracy. Learn finger placement with lessons first; after that, a game keeps practice fun.

Is this a typing game for kids?

Yes. On Easy, short words fall slowly, and vulgar words are filtered out of the word list.

How are words per minute calculated?

As in typing tests: all correctly typed characters (including one space per word) divided by 5, divided by the playing time in minutes.

    Is my leaderboard saved?

Yes, but only in your browser. It stays until you clear site data; in private mode it’s gone when you close the window.
