Paver Calculator

This paver calculator shows how many pavers your area needs: enter length and width, paver size, joint and waste, then read the count and the amount for bedding and base layers.

How it is calculated
  • Each paver counts with its joint: (length + joint) × (width + joint). The area divided by that gives the paver count.
  • Bedding and base are area times layer thickness. How thick the build-up has to be depends on the ground and the load.
Bedding and base thickness are guide values that you set here. Driveways and trafficked areas need deeper build-ups; when in doubt ask a landscaper.

How it is calculated

For 20 m² (215 sq ft) and pavers of 20 × 10 cm (8 × 4 in) with a 3 mm joint you need about 957 pavers, around 1,005 with 5 % waste. The calculator counts the area of each paver including its joint and divides the total area by it.

How it is calculated

A paver of 20 × 10 cm with a 3 mm joint occupies 20.3 × 10.3 cm, which is 0.0209 m². That fits about 47.8 pavers on one square meter. The number is multiplied by the area and rounded up. A surcharge for waste and spares is added, which you can adjust. For the build-up the tool multiplies area by thickness and gives the volume of bedding (grit, sand) and base layer in cubic meters.

Frequently asked questions

How many pavers do I need per square foot?

Divide the area by the area of one paver including joint. For 8 × 4 in pavers with a 1/8 in joint that is about 4.3 pavers per square foot.

How much waste should I add?

A simple bond often needs only a few percent; diagonal layouts, curves and many cuts need more. The value is adjustable in the calculator.

How thick are bedding and base?

Bedding is usually a few centimeters thick, the base much more. The exact values depend on ground and load and can be set in the calculator.

Do I need to include the joint?

Yes, the joint is part of the area covered per paver. If you forget it you order too many pavers.
