ml to liters converter
ml to liters means dividing by 1,000, because the prefix milli stands for one thousandth. Enter an amount and the liters appear as you type, with centiliters and US fluid ounces below; liters to ml works in the same box.

How it is calculated
How to convert ml to liters
Liters = milliliters ÷ 1,000 and milliliters = liters × 1,000. Milli means one thousandth, so a liter holds exactly 1,000 milliliters. Move the decimal point three places: 250 ml is 0.25 L, 750 ml is 0.75 L, and 1.5 L is 1,500 ml.
Milliliters to liters chart
| Milliliters | Liters |
|---|---|
| 100 | 0.1 |
| 250 | 0.25 |
| 330 | 0.33 |
| 500 | 0.5 |
| 750 | 0.75 |
Centiliters, cubic centimeters and fluid ounces
Bottles from Europe often show centiliters: 75 cl is 750 ml. One milliliter equals one cubic centimeter (cc), so a 5 cc dose is 5 ml. A US fluid ounce is 29.5735 ml, which makes a 750 ml bottle 25.36 fl oz and a 1 L bottle 33.814 fl oz. For kitchen measures use ml to cups; for larger volumes in US units, liters to gallons.
Common mistakes
Dividing by 100 instead of 1,000 turns milliliters into centiliters, not liters: 500 ml is 0.5 L, not 5 L. With a comma as the decimal sign, as on many European labels, 0,5 l is half a liter. And fluid ounces from a US label are not the same as the ounces on a kitchen scale; oz to ml converts the volume kind.
